It's not fields, it's salt!
The area near the airport was salt marsh land, fed by the SF bay. The minerals in the soil & standing water turn pretty colors when it dries & gets wet again with the tides. (See the winding trails? That's where the sea water flowed back in.) It's kinda cool actually.
