I don't know if I told anyone here before, but I am a pretty good piano player. a hell of a violin player, I was in the Arkansas youth symphony's as a kid and still play the violin, but I enjoy the piano better. HOwever, I have my violin with me.. it's not that hard to pack.. it's a violin

regardless.. that's not the point. I want a piano. I have an electric keyboard, but It's getting old. it's not the same as playing the piano. a REAL piano.

So I decided today to go piano shopping. Mind you, i have no idea where I'm going because I'm not from here, but I'll be dammed if I wasn't going to find a piano somewhere.

I ended up walking into this gutair store.. most all music stores sell regular and electric pianos. Every piano has a different feel to it, so I wanted to actually put my fingers on the keys, see if it needed to be broken in, etc.

Here is my pet peeve. The guy that works there/ the guy visiting the store that thinks that everyone in the damn music store is out to show he is a better musician than he is... espically the guys that work there.

so this guy... doesn't even ask me if I am interested in the damn piano.. he's more concerned about showing me how big his **** is by outplaying me on the piano. So he gets on the piano right NEXT to me and starts playing as loud as he can. He wasn't bad.. but that's not the point. I know you can play the piano.. IT'S FVCKING PIANO STORE!!!. I would hope so. It's part of your job. you are around pianos everyday. I on the other hand have not touched a real piano in 3 years (and I'm still better than you :))

so I'm thinking.. okay, put your **** back in your pants and ask me buying questions. you know.. your job? Here i am... wanting this salesman to sell me this or any piano in the store and he's busy jacking off on the piano. and he wasn't THAT good. You can tell people who don't really know alot of music who play the same chords over and over, not even switching keys, and all their songs have the same 3-4 chord patterns intertwined in them.. I digress.

So I say okay....you don' want to sell something... I don't want to buy it. So I left.

anyone know a good piano store in so cal?

Just keep in mind that he's a pud that makes 10/hr. He's got to prove to himself that he's good at something.

The paper or craigslist usually has a bunch of pianos in them (I'm assuming you don't NEED a brand new piano).

It's not that uncommon for someone to give away a piano for free in the paper as long as you're willing to pick it up. They usually just need a little tuning and they're fine.

For most people a piano is a piece of furniture, and they just want to get rid of it after a while if they don't play. My old roommate got a baby grand for 50 bucks just because the guy was tired of it taking up so much space in his house

Yea, I always laugh when I see a guy walking out of a Guitar Center with a violin. You just shake your head a little. I understand that a solo violinist needs a different sound than somebody who needs to blend in with an orchestra most of the time. But let's be honest, nobody wants the sound you're going to get out of the one you buy at Guitar Center

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.

you can buy a violin at guitar center?.....why? they might as well come with the finger tape

I bought my first violin out of the newspaper from a private instructor.. actually my mom bought it for me when I was 8. I have since broke it and the preceding one riding home from school on the bus. This one I bought out of the paper about 2 years ago

the thing about violins is that the sound is all in the wood. the older and more broke in the wood is, the better sound the violin has. Buying a new one is like buying one of thoose 200 dollar electric keyboards.. yeah it's a keyboard.b ut that's about it

Here in Nashville I have a buddy who's a violin player, and some of the stuff these guys do is just funny. The guy doesn't even have a car (granted, he doesn't really need one anyway) but his violin costs five figures. He WALKS to publishing companys and labels on Music Row to get checks for all the sessions he does. I think he's just one of those people who's learned how to live without one.

Side note, if you lived in DC and you were a pretty respected violin player, the Smithsonian will actually let you play a Stradivarius. I'm sure you know that violins HAVE to be played. If you just sit it on display the thing will be ruined. So when my buddy lived in DC he was allowed to sit around and play a Strad. He said it was the loudest thing he'd ever played. Like if you cranked a marshall stack to ten right next to your head.

that stuff takes too much time.. you have no idea how complex some of those songs can get. it's not a question of if I CAN play it, it's how much you have to practice to play it. Even when I was young.. you are talking 2 hours a night.. that's alot for a jr high violinist

I used to go to this one Guitar Center. The employees there were asses. They always harass you and were snobby. They always ask if I need help and I'm like thats ok I got it. Then a min later they come back and ask again and I'm like no thanks. They continually bug you until you buy something and if you don't they act mean towards you. I know there are a lot of ppl who just play the stuff and never buy it but I buy **** from there all the time and I hate when they won't leave me alone and act rude towards me. If I want help I'll ask for it. Another time I wanted to buy a music recorder from there and the guy would only show me the expensive ones because they make commission. I was like do you have any cheaper ones and he was like no and then later on I see there are a ton of cheaper programs. Hate those *******s.
