i'm having my college orientation next friday. what are some good conversation topics?

this is basically how the day is gonna go. there's a mandatory class for all freshmen. we have to stay with the people that are going to be in the same section for that class for the whole day. we're gonna get a tour and then have a barbecue at noon.

what are some good topics to talk about while walking around and at the barbecue? i already know everyone is gonna be like "what school did you go to?" and the obvious questions like that. i wanna stand out.

Well, I don't know if you guys are in groups or whatnot, but when I went(about a month ago) we were in groups and they helped us break the ice by playing games and stuff. Just ask what they like to do for fun, where they're from, what they think they're gonna major in, stuff like that. Idk if it'll help you stand out, worked for me though. GL and have fun.

those are the types of questions i'm trying to avoid. they're so typical. everyone in college expects those questions since everyone is new. anything that'll make me stand out?

Like I said in a previous post somewhere. Ask them where they are from, if you know the place say something about it "oh I love that X store there!" or if you dont know the place ask them "whats the best part about living there." and then after that say something like "we should go find a similar spot in this new town" done and done date lined up right there.
