Hello all.
I should preface by letting you know that I am almost 20 years old, and have never done any real weight lifting in my life. I've had a lack of self-esteem lately and have really decided to change a bunch of things in my life. One of them is the way I look. I'm definitely not a bad looking guy, I'm 6'3", dress well, etc. I've got a great girlfriend. The problem is, I feel like I'm too skinny. After I stopped playing tennis, I've turned into that skinny fat kid. It's really started to affect me mentally and my confidence has taken a hit. I know that working out will make me feel better about myself - and will definitely help me get out of some drug issues I've been having.
So, I'm joining the local gym here in Chicago. It's very expensive, but I know it will pay off. It's really an amazing facility. Four floors with everything you could need.
Anyway, I have some questions. First, I quit my job and have freed up my schedule. This should allow me to get into new eating and work-out habits. I want to start lifting weights and doing cardio. My goal is to be in the very best shape of my life by Christmas. However, at 6'3" and about 170 pounds, how long will it take for me to see results? I have some motivational issues, and while I'm committed to this, I need to see results to keep at it. Will I notice serious changes by the end of the summer if I get into a moderate to heavy workout routine?
And there's where my next question comes in. I have NO knowledge of working out - at all. I don't know the terminology, or any routines. So, can you guys personally write out routines for a beginner or link to online ones that you know are good? I want to build up my whole body. My goal is to have noticable muscle and look very toned (little body fat), and I want to be able to run 5-10 miles without much effort.
Sorry if this is poorly written, basically:
How long before I see results? (three months?)
How often should I work out?
What is the important terminology?
Have any full body, weight and cardio routines?
What kind of diet should I start working on?
