My calves are disgusting. I am a skinny guy, but my legs and upper body look good. My calves however, are disgustingly thin. I can't seem to get them to grow, either. I've definitely gained mass in my upper boddy and thighs...

It's to the point where I don't want to wear shorts when I'm with a girl.

Seated and standing calf raise works well...raise and lower slowly and be sure to get a good squeeze at the top...

For me, if I'm not feeling a brief and intense burn after each set of calf raises, I've not worked them hard enough.

Long distance running, BTW, will build your calves.
Dude! I've done distance running all my life!

Anyone here with skinny calves who has somehow made them big?

coolrunning, I am in the same boat as you. With me, I have noticed, the way I started putting on size in the calves was hitting them twice a week with heavy weights, doing standing, sitting calf raises and donkey raises. I use to play soccer and I never saw them grow once. With calves you really have to push way past their limits.

Yea weight train them like every other muscle so you can increase size (achieve hypertrophy). Sets of 6-12 reps are best for this.

I'm with Salvatore here - calves are almost entirely genetic.

I'm interested in that link he's posted though - I'll give that a shot.
