So I just suffered a heart attack at age 22, this happened after my HIIT (High intensity interval training)session. Left the room felt chest discomfort and arm tingling. Went to hospital (ER) , do a EKG, doc comes in says.. IDK Why a 22 year old should be having a heart attack, but you are. My response was "Oh great". Went to do a heart cath. Which in short term means cardiac catheterization. Stick a tube in your groin to through your artery which goes into your heart to seek for blockage. They found I had a BLOOD clot in one of my coronary arteries.

They put a stent in me and im in the hospital fvcking socked what just happened to me at age 22. My cardiologist has no answers for me other than GENETIC. I had no cholesterol, dude my heart rate is 56 beats per minute resting. Massive athlete and gym head.

While in the hospital I got a nurses number named Brittany despite what happened to me, I still had to keep my DJ status going.

Heres my point guys.. I did smoke at that period, being a athlete + smoking = nu uh. Stay away from smoking PLEASE. :nono:

Another thing is, live life to the fullest, to the best potential, keep your heads up, man did this heart attack change the way I see life now. NOTHING bothers me anymore, not even a perfect 10 ***** standing in front of me, which I use to be a little hesitant on. ***** please.

Take care of your bodies. This **** could happen to anyone. Good luck to you all, I just thought ide share this with you all.

Im still kicking but have to take like 6 pills a day. Exercise im slowly going back into. I lost alot of weight in 3 weeks total (muscle size)

Excuse me now while I go take my beta blockers..

Piece of mind.

Good luck in your recovery brother! Always keep you head up even when the world is falling (I know it's easier said than done, but that's why we're all here)!

Something had to cause your hypercoagulability. Genetics is probably a FACTOR, but not the primary cause. Smoking exacerbates this, big time.

Further, if you had a coronary thrombus then you could--in theory--have just as easily had a pulmonary embolism. I doubt there is much plaque accumulation in your arteries at 22, so there has to be something causing you to clot. Interesting case.

Either way...thanks for your story and the public service announcement. Keep us posted on your recovery and any new info on why it happened.

Pulmonary embolism could be the case. I do have a echo cardiogram on Thursday to see if I could have a hole in my heart. I do not have a blood clotting disorder I found this out today. And no there is no plaque accumulation every other artery was 90+% clear.

So sorry to hear about it. But keep your morale up. Just do what the doctor says

of course, the doctors answer always the same thing: it's genetic lol. i give 1 reputation point to the person who can give a good idea what may be causing this!

Right now my guess is some type of structural heart disease; i.e. a defect in the ventricular wall or a valvular disorder. Since the rest of his coronaries are patent and coagulopathy has been ruled out, I'm thinking:

Ventricular septal defect (most common congenital heart defect)

vs

Atrial septal defect

vs

Mitral insufficiency/regurgitation

Pulmonary embolism is when you develop a clot somewhere in your veins and it makes it into your right ventricle, and then into your pulmonary arteries, blocking blood circulation to your lung.

Which requires a biopsy, but what's the point? There is no cure for that, therefore biopsy is unnecessary. Another point to add, I do have very low HDL. About 35

My results came back from the hospital. I had a transoesophageal echocardiogram which showed everything was normal.

My cardiologists explanation (same exact words he says):

It was either 3 things. Low HDL, smoking, or just bad luck. Or all 3

I like how they did the fancy sounding "transoesophageal echocardiogram " and that "everything was normal" and "it was just bad luck". It doesn't seem they have any idea on what truly caused it.

True and I have not given up yet. I've exhausted all my options with this cardiologist and the whole hospital. I am going to a specialist next for a second opinion.

Some points current cardiologist made:

- No damage to muscle tissue/muscle
- He said I have a amazing heart
- My HDL is very low sitting at 35
- Heart rhythm works normally
- Blood works fine no blood clottage
- No murmur/hole in my heart

If you guys have any other explanation please do share with me so I can bring it up to this specialist.

I agree. What medications and supplements were you taking? Anything with ephedra? It has been linked to heart attacks in young and otherwise healthy people: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC555829/

I had an uncle who died of a heart defect at 22. It was not discovered until shortly before he died. He was never any sort of athlete, and when doing physical labor, he would take a lot more rest breaks than anyone else. Everyone thought he was lazy. My point with this story is that if your heart itself was that bad, you probably wouldn't be athletic and in good shape.

Come to think of it. Wheybolic is what I was taking prior to the MI. It's a GNC brand but I have already talked to a dietitian and she looked at the nutrition facts on the back said it was pure whey.

What do you think?

22? Not to sound at all bad (a heart attack at any age is a bad thing), but could it a congenital condition?

22 is way to young to even suffer the effects of smoking or a poor diet. Middle-aged men get most heart attacks due to literally decades of cholesterol build-up.

Do you have any other curious symptoms? Like do you still have arm tingling, do you have stuff like dizziness, fatigue, ear buzzing, depression or something, bad digestion, etc, anything like that? By the way any news bro?

What was your blood pressure like, and did they place you on blood pressure meds? might have been hereditary high blood pressure, and your low HDL cholesterol levels. The smoking may have exacerbated the strain put on your heart from congenital hypertension.
