I'm trying to do the HIIT schedules john stone is doing:

http://www.johnstonefitness.com/php/training.php

Being 21 and trying to get my heartrate at 180/190 beats is really tough, I'm doing 160 RPM at level 12 on a stationary bike(thats maximum) for 30/60 seconds and my heart will go to like 170/175 and after that I'm just totally exhausted and have to relax for atleast 2 minutes.

Anyone also have this problem? Or does it seem like I'm already doing hiit? John stone is 35 years so his 90% is at 166 beats so that seems alot easier.

after experimenting abit in the gym I decided to do HIIT on the cross-trainer which involves the entire body, cause just a bike won't work for me

My legs are extremely sore from the first time I did HIIT - 2 days ago. I only did a 4 minute session sprinting, but I had a difficult time breathing for 15 minutes afterwards... You aren't the only one, believe me. Today it's off to do strength training.

Erm... yeah, HIIT training is solid. Notice that on that guys site, he says you need to be able to run for about 45 mins at a decent pace and not even be short of breath before starting.

Although I dont agree with that statement, I think he's right. HIIT is solid. Maybe you dont have to be able to run for 45 mins like that before you start, but it wouldnt hurt.

<-- used to be able to do it, but get really out of shape and can barely scrape a worth-while session now

Don't always be the one putting yourself out for her. Don't always be the one putting all the effort and work into the relationship. Let her, and expect her, to treat you as well as you treat her, and to improve the quality of your life.

Fact: HIIT is damn hard. You should feel like puking at the end.

Don't go by the "numbers," especially if you're just starting HIIT. The whole idea behind the workout is percieved energy. The "body for life" book has a good idea about that... meaning that rather than going for a 190 heart rate, you go for a "10" effort for your set (being 45 seconds or whatever) and then relax back down to a "6 or 7" effort. It's all in perception of effort. Just like most training.

If you don't push yourself, you're just cheating yoruself, so you might as well give that full 10 effort, and then go back down, and just keep doing those sets. The numbers are just a guideline, but if you're working your A$$ off, and you only hit 175 heart rate... maybe next week it'll be 180... maybe your heart is different.

Secondly, @ AFK

I thought HIIT was like.....2 min sprint, 1 min jog, 2 min sprint, 1 min jog...etc.
Have you ever tried to sprint full out for 2 minutes??? I'd say a minute is enough to have you ready to puking. You're saying to run a sprint for two minutes... that's like a third of a mile, to half a mile for a normal person. That's the kind of effort a sprint is. When people talk HIIT and sprints, the sets are normally 30 seconds to a minute max.
