I'm sure this is obvious, but I wanted to put my thoughts down here.

Have you ever noticed that if you go into a room, or watch a TV show or whatever, the vast majority of men have dark hair color? But with women there will be a wide variety of hair colors, and definitely more women than men with lighter hair color? It's interesting to me because it appears that vibrant colors seem to play a part in attraction for females.

Studies show that women prefer men with dark hair. Studies also show that men prefer brunettes, yet there are soooo many women who dye their hair blonde, or red, or lighten it with highlights. I actually think that natural red hair is the most attractive hair color on a female, but it is so rare that it doesn't really show up in surveys. Most just ask "Which do you prefer, blonde or brunette?"

Obviously the reason for the color difference is that so many women change their hair color. I don't know what the percentage of women is that just keeps their color natural, but it has to be fairly small. And those must be mostly brunette. Actually, I was just looking up natural hair colors for celebrities, and I was surprised at how many changed from blonde to brunette - I would have thought most women lighten their hair.

The last study I read said that men prefer women with brown hair and blue eyes. While women prefer men with brown hair and brown eyes. For some reason, bright colors seem to attract men moreso than women.

Just wondering but do you sometimes have the urge to discuss random sh!ts on the interwebs?
I know cause the urge sometimes just came up randomly, and then I created a strings of threads about meaningless stuff.

About the subject of hair, Megan Fox has dark hair, so (your?) theory is flawed.
btw I bet you love Amy Adams.

Yes, Floyd, I often get the urge to discuss random sh!ts on the interwebs. I don't really find it meaningless though, this sort of thing is interesting to me. And yes, I find Amy Adams attractive.

Cuddle, here are a few links. The first one is about how men prefer brunettes with blue eyes:
http://fashionetc.com/news/beauty/2849-men-brunettes-blue-eyes-survey

This says that 60% of men prefer brunettes to blondes. I'm not sure by what percentage women prefer men with dark hair to light, but I'm guessing it's higher than 60%. This also says that only 8.8% of men picked redheads. I still say that the reason that number is so low is because real red hair is so rare, so men don't think about picking it. I have yet to meet a decent looking redhead who didn't get more than their fair share of male attention. There is the "ugly ginger" phenomenon, maybe some guys think about that. But to me, red hair is so striking, putting another woman up against a hot redhead isn't really fair.

Here's a link to a study about women preferring dark hair and brown eyes:
http://www.livescience.com/6608-study-dominant-men-yields-surprising-result.html

This says that people find guys with brown eyes more dominant. And that the gene controlling eye color is related to the gene controlling testosterone. It even points out that men with brown eyes tend to have faces that are shaped differently than men with blue eyes. I never knew that before.

By the way, I have gray hair (formerly dark brown). Most people don't even bother listing gray as a preference lol, since it associated with being old. And I do think it's important for women to color their hair to stay attractive - because men enjoy youth cues. I've often thought about coloring my hair, but I never do because I don't want to feel or look fake. Women can look fake because so many look fake anyway - fake hair, fake makeup, fake nails, etc.

Also, many women admonish me when I talk about coloring my hair. A lot of women tell me they like my gray hair. I've even heard gay men say they like my hair, and that they find gray hair hot. I guess it's something only men call pull off, even though I'd prefer to have my brown hair back.

Showing my age, but here's Jane Asher. She was in Alfie and used to date Paul McCartney.
Fine example of a redhead IMO.

I like all colors. No strong preference really. If I had a leaning I would say it's for fair skin, regardless of hair color. I know there have been studies done ( I'm too lazy to look them up) that show men worldwide from all cultures prefer women with relatively fairer skin.

The results of those studies probably has to do with the fact that most men in the world have dark hair. Blond hair is the real master hair color.

That reminds me, I wanted to ask a question. As you say, most men in the world have dark hair. There are more men with dark hair than women. I had always thought this was because women like to lighten the color of their hair. Or is it possible that nature bestows women with a greater variety of hair color?

I thought this sounded like nonsense, but after reading that the genes for eye color are related to testosterone, maybe it isn't? Maybe dark hair is more associated with testosterone also, meaning lighter hair is more prevalent in females? Any geneticists on the forum?

Pretty sure it's just genetics. But blond hair and blue eyes are a sign of genetic purity and superiority.

There's no proof that testosterone determines eye color.

Red hair on its own is striking, but it's often attached to (IMO) not as attractive women...I'm not into fair skin, and most redheads have fair skin. I do prefer brunettes by a wide margin. I can only remember a couple of blondes I've dated or even messed around with. I also live in NYC where there are many more swarthy people than Scandinavian types. Give me an olive-skinned brunette and I'm happy. Heck, give me two.
I'm with you on this. Red hair is the only color I don't like on women, because it almost certainly guarantees they will have bad skin. I've never seen a true red head that I'd consider an 8 or higher. They simply don't exist. Only a few I've ever seen that I'd consider a 7. No other hair color has this problem.

Julia Roberts is a red head, with fine skin and looks and no, blonde hair and blue eyes dont signify any sort of purity. it just means you're from Scandinavian stock

I like reading stuff like this because it shows that no matter how hot you think a woman is, there are guys out there who don't. Thing is, those of us who do like redheads tend to be a very enthusiastic group. By the way, I don't find Julia Roberts appealing, she looks like a horseface :)

Hi Zecko,
Agree with you on Red,Titian and Auburn hair,as long as it does not adorn one of those skinny freckled Celts whoTacitus assures us the Roman Soldiers feared more than the Men LOL...But your Survey, correct as it may be,tells me that they found such people dominant,it's pulling at a long bow to conclude that Women prefer them as lovers....In my experience, fair, blue eyed guys, particularly if on the tall side, have it in hearts every day....To change topics, you will never regret tinting your hair, takes twenty minutes...I find it's most effective to go back to your original colour...I did fifteen years go,really helped enormously...You will get a few negs but it's just sour grapes!

Redheads? I think people just like them for the novelty. They are rare... People like rare things. I have no preferences personally.

I agree the rarity is part of it, but I still think it is aesthetically pleasing, rare or not. Red is a very extreme color, it has the longest wavelength of the visible spectrum. But I agree that if blondes were as rare as redheads, they would be seen as a novelty. Maybe we'd call them goldheads or something.

Well agree on the fact that there are more women than men with lighter hair colors, as a man I dont particularly care about the hair color of a girl altought I liked blondes in my teens, what I really like is fair skin and clear eyes that really makes the difference.

Im dark haired and many women told me that altought they believe men with blonde or light brown hair are more attractive, for some reason they find themselves with dark haired men.

Not sure if thats because of hollywood stereotypes or its hollywood stereotypes to come from reality.

We're just talking about preferences and attraction here, I'm certainly not suggesting that hair color is any sort of deal breaker. To choose your women based on hair color would probably be madness.

Like you, I preferred blondes in my teens. Then when I got into my 20s I started to prefer brunettes. Now I would list red as my preference, but I've never had the good fortune to meet a redhead suitable for a LTR. They've all been either too b!tchy, attention wh0res, had kids, or been lesbian. Oh well.
To change topics, you will never regret tinting your hair, takes twenty minutes...I find it's most effective to go back to your original colour..
There have been a lot of discussions about this. I think pretty much every guy here who dyes his hair recommends it. I wouldn't mind trying it, but I can get girls without it, so why bother?
