Video games are fun and all but when does it get to that point when you'd rather do something worthwhile with, your life that is in this physical real world? I haven't played video games for more than 4 hours in a week in over 2 years, but I did play GTA 3 san andres when I had a PS2. It was fun until I noticed the cops in the game just appear out of thin air to chase you, adding to a sense of futility. If I was anybody who gave a **** about video games I would take time to re-prioritize my life.

A better solution is learn to multitask and live a fully balanced life that gives just about equal time to everything that is important to you.

Videogames are excellent stress relievers and much healthier than say drowning oneself in alcohol as a hobby.

So all DJ's who play videogames just make sure its balanced out with the other parts of your life and you can feel free to keep playing them.

you shouldn't generalise too much Create Reality

there will always be extremes of behaviours to everything

most people will fall into a normal or acceptable level of something

i love playing games, to me thats my leisure past time. Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Galactiv Civilizations

i also like going to gym, playing sports with my friends on the weekend, going to dinners, having sex with my girlfriend

i don't know where your point of view comes from, but you should think before you write something like that

I agree with lordson, as long as you know when to STOP and are not playing all day then I see no problem with playing video games. I still havent figured out why some people on here think it's bad to play them in the first place but oh well, I play games but they dont take over my life and people who put down games just cause THEY stopped playing should reevaluate their lives.

GTA 4 is old and overrated. Shouldn't this thread be called MGS 4, get a life?

As for your thread content. I don't have a clue what your point is.

MGS 4 is another good example of a game that can do nothing but waste valuable time and resources. Instead of playing video games, go join a volunteer organization. But, yeah thats kinda like work and video games are kinda like fun!

See what I mean he puts down something that other people enjoy , it's like the buddy that tags along but hates everything you do and just wants to leave.

I am glad that he doesnt answer any of us and just spouts nonsense but whatever, but I can see an even worse waste of time then playing videogames "Bashing the whole community of Video gamers cause you think your better."

PS; GTA is overrated as much so as Halo and Killzone. MGS caters to the hardcore MGS fanbase so if youve never palyed any of the MGS games you probably wont understand 75% of the game.

Meh, playing video games is like watching TV. Its something to do when you have absolutely nothing else to do. There is nothing wrong with it, if you use it for that purpose. It becomes a problem when you start playing them to the point of ignoring the other aspects of your life. There have been several points in my life where that has happened (the worst being the 12-18 hours a day I spent playing Everquest for 2 1/2 years straight). Thank god I learned my lesson and history didn't repeat itself with WoW.

As for GTA IV, it is a great game but it is only a game and nothing too special. I bought it for the 360 the day it came out and have only played it for an hour max. In fact, a week later I went to visit a buddy for the weekend and brought the game with me so he could take a look at it. I ended up watching him play, while he was all google eyed.

It's funny how people bring up threads like these. We can't spend 24 hours each day doing something 'real' to 'improve' ourselves. If you are going to bash video games then don't want TV or read a book either. Hell what are you doing on this forum?

They are fun and even healthy as long as you aren't using them as a crutch. For example to escape your own reality or the simulate socialising.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

Forex account trading + Crysis = Awesome way to spend my afternoons.

And I am improving myself. Excellent trend recognition, hand-eye coordination, response time, decision making, teamwork, pwn4g3 .... should I go on?

I find people who bash video games to be amusing. More often than not, they're the jock types, who feel that sports, or athletic ability trumps all forms of entertainment and achievement. They spend all this time gathering information, watching and analyzing sports, when they have no real direct tie or participate to the sport itself. Just like parents/families who force athletics onto their kids at a young age, and turn them into athletic machines, until they get hurt, or more likely, have their asses handed to them in college.

Anything can be skewed to be negative if one tries. The point is finding the healthy balance.

GTA4 got old when GTA - Vice came out.

Rhoto your post reminded me of something I read, from KontrollerX I think. Correct me if I'm wrong. "It's like jocks who think watching fox sports news is a productive use of time" :p

ROFL so I'm not allowed to relax and play some video games for an hour or two? Who are you to say that I'm wasting my time? And yes playing my PS3 is wasting tons of resources

Dude. GTA 4 has been out for a month and a half.
Yup, point being? That game was very flawed and now I'm in the middle of playing MGS4 which is just a better game. I expected a lot more from GTA4 and it just didn't deliver.

The better and this "better solution" is to work single minded on your biggest opportunity that you have at the moment & to alternate it with periods of rejuvenation. "Living a fully balanced life" is just a cute excuse for not achieving lots of things and going for what you really really want.

Videogames are excellent stress relievers
This is true for some people and for some guys that are played but some of those people. Being in the nature I think that for most people is a much better stress reliever. The other way around is just an illusion and a way of becoming addicted emotionally of doing those things.

I like this thread. You guys automatically assume if I don't like video games I must be a sports freak. The good ol Jocks vs Nerds mentality. A true sign of indoctrinated economic cannon fodder.

I'm going to ask something unbelievable about video games. What if video games are being programmed to read your behaviors and decision making patterns? What if all of this psychological data was being sent to a supercomputer which takes it and does evil calculations? What if they want all your brains? Do you really enjoy playing these games, knowing they are smarter and faster and possibly a lot more malicious than you?

Now you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

"Living a balanced life" isn't some cute excuse.

It is everything you just said minus the pointless argumentative rot.

Next time think before you post.

"This is true for some people and for some guys that are played but some of those people. Being in the nature I think that for most people is a much better stress reliever. "

The beginning sentence of this paragraph of yours doesn't make any sense whatsoever so you might want to rephrase and try again.

Anyway personally I could give a sh!t about nature.

The only thing I get from it is mosquito bites.

I find it far more peaceful and relaxing outrunning the cops in GTA IV while in my air conditioned room while my fan is going.

To each their own though and I think thats a lesson you and the topic creator need to learn.

"The other way around is just an illusion and a way of becoming addicted emotionally of doing those things."

“What is real? How do you define ‘real’? If you’re talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then real is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.”-Morpheus

Isn't it obvious?

You say game old. Game not old. Simple enough? :p

That game was very flawed and now I'm in the middle of playing MGS4 which is just a better game. I expected a lot more from GTA4 and it just didn't deliver.
You're in the vast, vast minority. You're still entitled to your opinion, but you need to know that there's only a handful of people out there that share it with you. Besides. I wasn't addressing whether or not it was "flawed".
