When I was 14 I was a tad bit shorter than 5'7. At 15 I got to 5'8 and then I stopped growing. I'm not talking about height, it's my whole body. Most guys were shorter than me at 14 and as tall as me at 15, but almost everyone kept growing at least 2-3" until they were 17 and another inch later.
Even they guys who stopped getting taller at 15, still gained some size, getting larger and most people my age already have an "adult body", meaning broad shoulders and large chest. Also their faces started getting more and more manly at 17-18.

My situation is different: as I said, I stopped getting taller at 15. Moreover, my frame hasn't changed much, in fact I only look bigger because I have gained muscles bodybuilding. This is pretty obvious, because my body looks like a 15 year old guy with pumped muscles, but the frame is still small overall.
My facial features also haven't changed, beside my goatee getting thicker and growing faster; I can't even grow a light beard and moustaches are still the same as when I was 16. The only facial hair that has "improved" is the goatee which looks like a mature man's now.

I'm not upset by this and it isn't really about getting girls (I look young and short, but I have a cute face and a model body). It's just that I was wondering what could have stopped my growth and if I'll always be like this.

A friend of mine says that I will probably start growing again in my early 20s and I could even gain a couple of inches. What do you think? Has this ever happened to you or someone you know?

I think your friend is completely right
how old r u btw you never said that... I'll guess 18?
I stopped growing at 16 but I don't really need to anymore since i'm 6', I think that it's because I started working out as soon I hit 16 since I decided that 6' is tall enough, and i heard that lifting prevents you from growing
Now I have a friend who is actually exactly the same age as me (1 month dif, he's 17 and I'm 17 next month)
last year he was hitting the gym so much but he grew "too big" if it's possible, since he really cares about sports and he grew so big that his muscles were so big they slowed him down and stuff
but he's real short only like 5'6 or something but this year he quit doing weights to get faster and stuff and he grew 3 inches

i dunno but I think that that lifting prevents you from growing thing is true even though a lot of people don't

oh and about the you still look young, you're supposed to still look quite young and nuthin's wrong with that
maybe most of those friends who look older than you smoke? since most of my friends who smoke look older than me... dunno if it's just coincidence though, if it's true i still wouldn't smoke though since in that case it means that they'll look like 40 by the time they're 30

We usually stop growing in height between 16 - 21, but the whole growing process stops at around 25.

Actually, I started using some light weights when I was only 12 and I began working out with heavier weight at 17 or so.

Also, my younger brothers are 6'1 (he got there at 13-14, now he's 16) and 6'0 (he reached that height at 16-17 and he's now 18) and the youngest one will probably get to 6'2-6'3.

I don't smoke regularly (maybe a couple of cigarettes on weekends), but I drink and smoke pot more than most of my friends.

I don't really want to look older, but I'd like to know if someone else has experienced a growth spurt after 4-5 years of staying at the same height.

I'd really like to gain a couple of inches, so my friends stop making fun of me being 5" shorter than my younger brothers:)

My guess is that the main reason your growth has slowed is genetics.

In 6th grade, I was 5'7. I was huge compared to everybody else. In the 5 years or so since then, I've only grown about 2.5"-3" in height. I'm fine with my height, even though I wouldn't mind another inch or two. However, I know that theres very little, besides eating right and getting as much sleep as I can, that will change how tall I become.

Well if you really want to know when you stop growing you can always ask your doctor, he keeps a graph that estimates your final height. But the truth is guys tend to grow till their mid 20s. My dad was 6'2 in highschool then in college he grew another 3in and is 6'5 so ya don't worry about it. If your still worried after consulting with your doc then then get some growth hormones.

Thank you guys for your replies, but getting taller is not my major concern (not that I wouldn't like being 6'0). I'd just like to know if I will keep a small-youngish frame for my whole life. My shoulders look pretty broad now just because my delts have gotten bigger by lifting weights, but the bone frame of my torso is the same as when I was 15, so I just look "pumped", not big. When people see me without a shirt, they estimate my weight at around 170 lbs when I actually am 20 pounds lighter than that. This is because they probably imagine my muscles on an average 20-yr-old guy frame, which would put him at around 170 lbs. I can't really get what stopped me from getting taller/bigger at 15, considering that each one of my brothers is still growing after that age. Genetics would put us all more or less in the same place, so why am I smaller and shorter?

I will try to type some helpful input:

- I also kind of have a younger face/build. I reached my current height 5'8-5'9 when I was about 16-17. I'm Asian so compared to the average Caucasians, everything is "delayed" a little.

- I had more or less the same build from age 18 to 24. No matter what I ate, how much I ate (and I just love eating), what sports I did, I won't get bigger. I stayed at 140lbs the whole time.

- Now I'm 26, for almost a year now, I've noticed some obvious change, I'm getting a more "adult" build. My weight shot from 140lbs to 150lbs, and I'm having broader shoulders, and overall I look more "manly" than "boyish" now body type wise. Maybe it's because I've been practicing Capoeira, but still before 2004, I did a year of breakdancing. So I guess it's definitely my metabolism that's changing

- About height, although you say that you don't really care, but come on Adone, of course we all care when we stand at 5'8-5'8:rolleyes: , a few extra inches would be REALLY nice:yes: :( . But I'm sorry to tell you that once you stop growing taller, you won't restart growing taller again. It's just biology. I can't remember the exact scientific terms, but something like the "joints" of your bones are "fused", that's why the bones stop getting longer.

- About the height gap between you and your brothers: that just happens, I've seen more extreme. The girlfriend of my Capoeira teacher is half french half vietnamese. She stands at 5'7 if it's not more. But her little sister is only 5'1:eek: You can tell they are sisters when looking at their face, but damn, more than 6 inches of height difference!:woo: Anyway they are both good looking so they are fine with the cards they've been dealt...:D

Guys usually have a second growth spurth in their late teens or early twenties. You'll keep filling out for a while yet. If you still have a childs body at age 25 then you've probably got cause for some concern.

Tell her a little about yourself, but not too much. Maintain some mystery. Give her something to think about and wonder about when she's at home.

I'm 18 and I stopped growing at 14. I'm 5'7 and a half. Whats strange is my father also stopped at 14, and never grew anymore. But he happened to be much taller when he stopped, just under 6 foot(5'11 and three quarters of an inch i think).

I just have to live with my height. I was born into a family with mostly tall men, I was told I was gonna be tall as a kid, I was usually taller than most of the other kids, but when adolesence came I didn't grow right. My best friend is 6'2". It can be weird I admit..

I'm 16 and 5'9.5, I had the growth thing checked with the hand and I'm nowhere near done growing. It's funny since my mom is 4'10 and my dad is 5'6 who stoped growing at 21. What i'm saying is that genetics don't always have to make sense.

Also someone in this thred said that lifting weights stops height growth. I don't believe that. Anyone know more about that?

Recent studies say it doesn't. Anyway, my brothers, who never lifted, are tall, while I'm short. Also, I've stopped growing by the time I started lifting heavier weights. Another thing that makes me think about this is my torso being very short in proportion to my legs, which could have been caused by lifting (I noticed most guys gain an inch or two by their torso growing, around the age of 16, while I didn't experience that and my torso is still short at 5'8). I know other guys that have been lifting since they were young and their torsos are usually short compared to their legs, even when they are rather tall.

Anyway who cares, at least I have a nice body.

To Le Parisien: I'm not saying that I'm satisfied with my height, I would KILL to be like 5'10 or better yet above 6'. I'm just saying that this is not the main point of my thread:)

I grew to 5'11"ish when I was 14 then only grew an inch until I was 18, and now another inch so i'm 6'1" at 23. That last inch was a big suprise, don't take your Dad's memory of himself as truth. Diets are a lot different these days, if nothing else.

I've noticed the ripped guys are usually shorter than me so the heightism goes both ways.

Also, thinking back about the kids I knew in HS, if weightlifting affects height, it won't break too many genetic barriers. Look at some male height averages. There's a huge gap between the ~5'8" crowd, and the ~6' crowd, this is likely due to genetics. So you might only be 5'11" or 5'11"&1/2 instead of 6'0" because of weightlifting, but you definately won't be a 5'9" because of it.

That's true, but a short torso at 5'8 makes you look even shorter.
