Okay since that male prostitute poster keeps telling us to make field reports, I'll throw in my 2 cents. I've learnt quite a lot from today, and hopefully everyone else does too.
I was in the elevator (or "lift" for Americans) alone with this girl from class. She was this European exchange student from "Milan". We'd never spoke in class, except during the "Group Introduction Sessions".
I got bored and started playing with the elevator's buttons (they make a cool "Ding!" sound when you press them). After playing the first verse of the Australian national anthem, she looks a little amused, and I invited her to join in (no words spoken, just body language).
So after a bit of horseplay, we end up poking each other, playing with the buttons, and just having a good laugh about it. Then my floor comes up, and I have to get off. I pull out my mobile phone and point it at her. She gives me a mock expression like she's saying "You're very direct!", but inputs her number anyway.
When I got home I gave her a quick call to get her to come hiking with me. That was the first time we actually spoke. We exchanged some details (she told me a bit about herself, like her name), and set up morning coffee, followed by a nice day/evening hike.
I've always known the scientific stuff about "90% of first impressions is made through body language/facial expression", but I really had to see it in action to really understand it!
PS. Rarely dated European girls (since I don't live in Europe), but it seems a lot of them are pretty open and friendly, even to strangers. I like that, very different from the "Who the f*ck are you? I've got mace!" response.
