Good 'ol blighty.
Hi Guys,

How would you respond if the girl cancels the date as her dad had a heart attack. She has been apologetic and sounds sincere. I've said no problem, and hope he is ok and left it at that. She said she will get in touch when he's ok.

I think i will leave her be.

Any suggestions?

Respond with something like;

"No problem, let me know when you are free and we can reschedule".

In the meantime, fill your funnel with other women.

I would just leave it as "Sorry to hear, my condolences", and leave it at that and not mention the date or rescheduling it to avoid sounding too needy.

Then forget about her and hit her up a couple of months later.

Exactly what LMFAO said.

Although, if I were you, I'd avoid meeting up with her for a couple months. Her Dad dying is some serious **** and could put on strain on trying to date her.

interesting, I just got the heart attack/ braindead person excuse too.

How to handle it? One strike, one out. If they want to reschedule, they will get in touch. If they want you enough, it will be a matter of when, not if. If they do not have any interest, its not worth the time. I delete the number after the first flake.

Create self-fulfilling prophecies. Always assume the positive. Assume she likes you. Assume she wants to talk to you. Assume she wants to go out with you. When you think positive, positive things happen.

When a girl flakes, you have failed.

I use the one strike rule. She flakes, she's out. If she pulls this excuse and calls to reschedule, all the better. But cut all contact with this one.

You guys gotta be joking, right? Did I miss something? Dump her because she'd rather tend to her dad who nearly died than go on a first date with some dude she doesn't know?

"I'm sorry I have to cancel our date, my entire family was murdered and I have to arrange for their burials and get the finances straightened out. I'm really sorry, let me get back to you after all that's done."

"F*ck you b*tch, you flake once on me and you're out!"

ummmmm... :nervous:

Inb4 some loon comes along and calls me a woman for actually having human empathy.

Or was this some hilarious troll I didn't get?

You'd really give a girl another chance for a date after she flaked on you when her family got murdered?

I agree with you. I have a two flake rule if it's possible the first flake was legitimate. I had a girl flake on me tonight for tonsilitis. I'll try again next week otherwise I won't speak to her ever again, no big deal either way. Though it's a bit easier to say that than the dad getting a heart attack.

If you want to talk, talk to your friends. If you want a girl to like you, listen to her, ask questions, and act like you are on the edge of your seat.

You're missing the point dude.

It could be legit or a way to avoid meeting you. I've had both happen.

"I'm sorry I have to cancel our date, my entire family was murdered and I have to arrange for their burials and get the finances straightened out. I'm really sorry, let me get back to you after all that's done."

This is why you spin plates. When was the last time you held your breath for a woman who wanted to date you 2 months later? I'll put a woman on the backburner here, but I'll continue with my other plates. Don't you do this?

"F*ck you b*tch, you flake once on me and you're out!"

Telling a woman this is a great way to run her off. I use the one strike rule for new women. Everybody knows that flaking is a sign of low interest 95%. The other 5%? That's a legit excuse. You'll know if she gets back in touch, where her IL is.

ummmmm... :nervous:

Ummmmm, I don't want to be a beta orbiter. But who here does?

Inb4 some loon comes along and calls me a woman for actually having human empathy.

Human empathy is cool, but the fact remains that there is a lot of flaking going on and women love having orbiters. Women tend to reject men in the least confrontational way possible. Why do you think there's these maxims?

1. Women who are interested in you won't confuse you.
2. Would she flake out on Brad Pitt or Tom Brady?
3. Would you forget a date with Kate Upton?
4. A woman who wants to see you and bang you will find a way to make it happen. Even rearranging Earth's orbit.

To name a few.

Or was this some hilarious troll I didn't get?

Excuse or not, SPIN PLATES! Worrying about one girl shows you have her on some pedestal and with little to no options.
Read between the lines.

Damn you guys, you're taking this situation (and yourselves) waaaaaaaay too seriously.

If that happened to me I'd say, "Wow, sorry to hear about your dad, give him my best." And then of course I'd be dating other girls. But if three weeks later the chick said, "Dad's out of the hospital, everything's ok," I'd say "Glad to hear it, why don't we go out for drinks and you can tell me about it." (or whatever)

Now yeah if she's lying to him about her dad that's another thing. But the OP didn't suggest that. Nor did he suggest he was pining away for her.

There might be other reasons you don't want to date someone who just went through a traumatic life experience, but "flaking" on you shouldn't really enter into that equation.

The whole anti-flake control-freak thing has gotten a little out of hand here IMHO. Look, chicks are gonna flake on you. The younger they are, the more likely they are to do so. You can't control it, you can't stop it, you can't "punish" them for it.. that's life. Sh*t happens. When it happens, you just say "Hey, no problem" and you set something up with a new girl.

Agreed.

A loss is a loss regardless if it's out of your control. You lost; so find another chick and if she comes back around then great.

But...

"Dam hon that sucks to hear about your Dad. I'd like to think he's OK. I am thinking about you." Then leave her alone a few days and check up on her again with a real brief text: "How's your Dad?"

This is a time to be 100% ultra sincere. A great quality when used in the right situation.

In my opinion "No problem" sounds borderline harsh. Because it IS. The freaking guy had a heart attack. That's a big problem.
There's no excuse to be an *sshole and act like you don't have a conscious. Whether she's lying or not you should at least be sincere to yourself above all other things.

Geez guys, the girl's dad is sick. Would you go on a date in the same situation? Take her at her word ask out other girls in the meantime.

Honestly, it comes down to if you believe the girl or not. I had a girl once tell me she lost her car key so she couldn't go out. Personally, I consider that a flake. I don't consider it a flake though if she said her dad had a heart attack. That's real scary stuff. Plus, if the girl was using that as an excuse to get out of a date, I wouldn't want anything to do with her because she clearly has no morals.
