Saturday night, my girl friend was over and got really p!ssed about my selection of magazines I have.

I have subscriptions to a couple of muscle magazines and some mens magazines such as Maxim, Stuff, FHM, and Playboy. (I know, I have too many, but they were cheap as he!!). She was like why do you have to have "girlie" magazines when you have a girl friend?

I'm like because they are entertaining. They have more than just piitures of women in them. If I wanted "girlie" magazines, I'd get some real smut. Not the soft core stuff.

Any way, I caught her trying to steal them. It really upset her.

Anyone ever come across this? How did you handle it? How should I handle it?

I told her that my choice is reading material/entertainment is part of me. Who I am. Take it or leave it. I'm through with women trying to change me...

nicely put, you told it like it is, if she cant handle it she can have fun explaining to her mates why she left because she couldnt compete with a few magazines.
you dont need this rubbish, amazing how some chicks try this crap on expecting the usual AFC supplication "ok i will get rid of them"...pffft

She tried to steal them?? Man, they're all crazy..

Just hide them somewhere she won't see them. Chances are so long as they're not in her face, she'll forget about it. If she asks, don't lie and say you got rid of them, just tell her you know she doesn't like seeing them so you put them away. Aren't you thoughtful.

Your on the right track, sounds like she's got this little fantasy of her running your life. I used to have a girlfriend like that always trying to change channels on my car stereo(THAT PISSES ME OFF) trying to drag me to bars finally it culumnated when she said "if you don't sleep over my house tonight i'll never talk to you again" I said "that's too bad, ur loss" then hung up and she became very stalkerish. I've recently am certain I've gotten rid of her once and for all.

Anyways, You've gotta put your foot down, and let her know there's the door if she is trying to pull Bull**** like that. I personally would just separate ways with her but that's me, I personally don't really care for a girlfriend so i'd be very easy for me to do that. She needs to realize it, if she doesn't shape up kick her to the curb and move on

But isn't there an underlying problem underneath this? It's not just about the magazines. He hides them, she'll be after something else until he puts the firm foot down on her take it or leave it. She don't sound lke much of a catch, but an insecure controlling jealous type

What happens, IN HER MIND, is that she comes to see you as WORTHLESS simply because she hasn't had to INVEST anything in you in order to get you or to keep you.

You were an interesting diversion while she had nothing else to do. But now that someone a little more valuable has come along, someone who expects her to treat him very well, she'll have no problem at all dropping you or demoting you to lowly "friendship" status.

No, I disagree.

I think getting into the habit of storing them somewhere out of sight shows class without supplication.

1. she sounds hella insecure. I used to have a girlfriend like that..it took getting rid of her to end the problem.

2. You as a man have every right to have in YOUR home what you want to read as entertainment.

3. She needs to deal with her issue's herself.

4. This is one of the ways women controll men. Don't fall for this ****. She also must be a passive control freak.

5. If the sh*it continues I would personally dump the biatch after telling her how "I" felt and she didn't change.

6. Don't give up your power in this relationship bruh...stay strong.

If he wants to have softcore porn littered all round his apartment then he has every right to do so and he should stand up for himself the way he has.

The point I'm making is that if you want your pad to be a bit more classy and a bit less Beavis and Butthead, you won't leave that sh*t all over the place.

I completely agree. This is your GF, man. I haven't dated too many women who didn't have a bit of insecurity about men's mags laying around the pad (specifically those with scantily clad or nude women). One or two out in the opening isn't much harm but when you have a nice little spread going, she will express herself.

Now, you can just leave them out but do you really want to hear her complain about them constantly and have her insecurity expressed in other ways? Again, I guarantee you that most of the women you will date will say something about the magazine spread so I don't think she is acting strange. Mnay women just don't seem to get the quality of the articles inside of the magazine thing.

A LTR is about compromise. You can't get around this unless you never want to be in a LTR. So I am with BP. Just keep the mags out of sight. This way, you get to keep the mags and she doesn't have to feel insecure.

Just picture yourself visting her place tonight and she has a spread of Playgirls and men's muscle mags laying around?

Do not be too easy. If you are too easy to get, she will not want you. If you are too easy to keep, she will lose interest in you. If you are too easy to control, she will not respect you.

Thanx for the replys.

I think that she thinks all I do is jerk-off to them. So, she's jealous/in-secure...

Maybe I will get rid of them as SOON as I'm done reading them...

What I ought to do is get a bunch of Cosmo's and Play Girls and see how she re-acts...

Next she's gonna get p!ssed if I watch an R rated movie with nudity...

Like I say, you don't have to get rid of them; I wouldn't. What if things doesn't work out and you threw away a nice chunk of the things you enjoy?

Like Chris Rock says, "all men have some sort of porn around the house."

You may have to move a few book cases to find the lever that leads to the dungeon where the porn is kept, but it is around somewhere. Maybe it's in the form of the Playboy channel . Who knows but she has to deal with it. You just don't have to throw it up in her face.

You can probably make her keep quiet about the mags but the insecurity will likely stick around.

If she goes this far, you two will probably need a long talk.

My last g/f loved to read my Maxim subscription. She even agreed that it was the male version of Cosmo.

LOl. That should be a classic moment in the relationship that both of you should be able to laugh about somewhere in the future.

Believe me, my porn collection is under lock and key. I've been collecting Playboy Lingerie issues since I was in school.

She would seriously freak if she found those...

There are two seperate issues here.

Number one is acting classy by not having that stuff laying around.

Number two is a control freak you have for a GF. She will persist in attempting to control you. Now it is magazines, it will be something else later.

I married one thinking those early issues would get resolved. Guess what, they just keep inventing more issues. There is no end to it.

Bobb, You are so right.

When I first met her, we were just friends. I told her about my one-itis.

That was almost a year ago and to this day, she'll bring her name up even though I haven't even spoken to her in 9+ months.

"You can always go hook up with one-its"...

Don't walk, run for the exit. A problem like this won't get better because it's a self-esteem issue, it has nothing to do with you. When I was in this situation, my live in girlfriend was obsessed with me being attracted to other women. She would throw away magazines and say I must have misplaced them, and become jealous over porn like I was cheating on her when I watched it. She would have gone nuts if she knew I thought about other women when we were together.

She acted like this right up until I left her for good. No matter how I tried to rationally talk to her, she would twist everything around so she would be right. What really made me mad, the one magazine I was going to take with me when I moved out, she hid from me and lied about it.
