getting taller by stretching?!

i read somewhere that you can gain some height (just a couple of inches, not more) by sitting onto a chair or your bed and stretching your arms upwards pretending you are trying to reach the roof with your fingerprints. do you see any truth in this or it would just be a loss of time?

i havent heard of any studies backing this but im pretty sure it willl work. as for the lost time, why not do it the next time your watching tv or sitting around listening to music.

great idea, i'm going to do it right now, while studying. i wonder how long it should be done each day in order to maximize the effects. i'm just 5'9 and i'd love to be 5'10 or, even better, 5'11

1. first of all, let gravity straighten your spine out: lie on the floor on your back with your knees slightly off the ground for 10 mins. gd quick exercise for getting your max height back

2. increasing height? i reckon it's possible if you're young enough. when i was 16 i was about 5'8 i think. in my bed i used to lie on my stomach and stretch as high as i could for 1 minute before going to sleep every night. you might as well give it a bash. i'm 6'1 now, although you might just gain an extra couple of inches naturally anyways

Michael Jordan grew 7 inches in just one summer, I dunno how he did it but someone told me that he hung onto a bar with his feet a foot from the ground for like 6 days in a row or for like 6 hours a day everyday!

do you guys really believe this, gaining height using unnatural methods.... if your bones are only that tall/short, then so be it!

you guys should try eating more cow meat and drinking more milk for that extra calcium for bone growth. it would probably help you gain an inch or 2. But would be ideal to drink during puberty....after puberty, i would be hard to gain drinking milk

Back in the day, my dad told me a story of how he gained 3 inches just by hanging. He would hang about 30 minutes a day on monkey bars for almost a year. My best guess is that it increased the distance between his vertebraes, and caused the invertebral discs to grow. Even a very little bit of growth in each disc could cause a significant increase in height.

this may work, but from what i know, you would be less equilibrated and more esposed to injuries, therefore poorer in sports...

I haven't posted on this site in over 3 years, but I've come out of hibernation to tell you that height is GENETIC. No stretching, no milk drinking, no hanging upside down like a bat, it's just plain genetics. Think about it, if you could make yourself taller, why are there so many short people in the world? Are you the only geniuses in the world who have come up with the brilliant concept of stretching to make yourself taller?

You can't stretch to make yourself taller....you want to LOOK taller? Improve your posture, stand up straight, keep your head up, wear sketchers or lugs shoes, which have about 1/2 inch of sole at the bottom, that will improve your appearance of being taller, but you can't become taller by choice.

its partially genetics you mean.. cause i'm taller than both my parents who didn't have the same privileages as i have right now when they were smaller.

ie i had better quality food/eat more

It would seem to be common sense that exercise cannot make you taller but I get a lot of questions about whether stretching can make a person taller. The answer is no, stretching cannot make you taller than you are genetically predetermined to be. However, there is a kernel of truth to this myth. Many people have terrible posture and appear shorter than they should actually be. Stretching can help to improve posture by making tight muscles more flexible. Exercise programs like Pilates and yoga that involve both strengthening and stretching are excellent for improving posture and making you look like you have gained an inch or two.

You could always shoot up some GH or develop a tumour on your prituitary, that would work.

All you can really do is not do anything that will impede your natural potential.

So, sleep well, eat a balanced diet and DON'T take any gear.

Theres other ways to increase height - studies have show high intake of arginine increases the production of GH. I used to use arginine for weight training and I noticed i took a stretch during that. Another product i havnt tried is gaba - thats supposed to be even better. Apart from that shoot up some GH.
