I have a few questions.. I am 6'1 185 pounds, and I just want to a get a little bigger now. I am eating about 200 grams of protein a day and 30 grams of that comes from a whey protein shake.

I eat very healthy, except for fruit juices and about 2 egg yolks a day. I am fine with having some bodyfat since my goal isn't to be that ripped. I read somewhere that if you want to get bigger you can get away with gaining some bodyfat since up to a certain point it doesn't actually look like you gained much fat all. But, I am not sure what bodyfat percentage that is. Anyone know?

Also, does 6'1 185 sound thin or like I really need to gain that much more weight? I have pretty long arms. I just want to look a little stronger/bigger.

not going to type out the same **** I just did so I'll link you to this thread I posted some tips in.

To help you eat more, any mornings you can get up early take a scoop of whey protein (24-30 grams) and go do some light walking 30-45 minutes.

This will help get your appetite up for the day. @ 6'1 you should shoot for at least 225 at the minimum!! Yet I would shoot for more like 250-260. That's a lot of frame to fill out!!

here's the thread ...go ahead use that routine, pick some exercises I out lined and train and eat big like a bodybuilder. Get stronger in the rep ranges while utilizing good form/technique. Do that for a few years and there's Nothing more to it then that.

250, 260? You can't be serious man.
It depends on how big you want to look. At 250, you'll look bodybuilder big, but not everyone wants that.

You are borderline ideal weight for your height (Ideal as in no longer looking skinny). But if you want girls to start falling head over heels for your body then you should aim to get over 200lbs

Ok CaptainJ.. what would you suggest would be the quickest way to get there (200 range) considering I am eating pretty healthy. I am just eating as much as I can as often as I can throughout the day. It almost all comes from good food.

As I said the only unhealthy stuff are fruit juice and 1 or 2 egg yolks a day. I haven't tested my bodyfat as of late, but my guess is that it is fine. I do 10-12 of cardio 3 times a week after weights- I don't believe I need that much of it.

Would working out legs twice a week help me get to around 200 faster? I do heavy dummbell squats as I don't want to hurt my back with the barbell.

LOL@ whole eggs deemed "unhealthy" eat 6-8 before bed or for breakfast with some oatmeal..ffs they're WHOLE EGGS full of b-vitamins/minerals and protein.

My apologies...I hang out/talk to a lot of guys who actually look like they lift regularly. You're tall, understand it'll take a lot of food and weight training to get up to where you'll look in the mirror and say "Yeah I'm satisfied. with this size". 15 lbs of mass is going to disappear quite quick on your big frame. You'll hit 200 and then will be like that's it? Telling you aim for 250-260 and then cut down to 230-240. You'll look much better at that weight.

DB squats? You ****in kidding me? Start doing front squats, leg press, hack squat work ASAP. 2 times a week at least. Hard heavy and then a ligher set after going for what you think you can hit 10 for and pushing until 20...ala widowmaker style.

If you really want to be at 200 you should get up to 215-220 and then cut down to 200. Like it or not while gaining a good amount of mass you'll gain a little bit of fat. Hence go over your target weight a bit then cut down to it.

Anyways hope the best for ya....

Rofl i think we've found the reason why you aren't gaining weight. Fruit juice and eggs are unhealthy!? Haha. Basically here's what you do to get big. Go down to Mcdonalds after you've had a session of heavy squatting at the gym, order 1 of every type of burger they have (Hey a balanced diet has got to have variety  ) and shove it down your throat. When you are going about your day, get as many WHOLE eggs as you can (Yes I said whole, not just the whites or the yolk, why waste a good egg?) and eat them, and drink atleast 4 pints of milk a day on top of your diet. This way you will get big.

There's no such thing as healthy and unhealthy foods. There are only healthy and unhealthy diets. You need to eat according to your lifestyle and weightlifting = lots of protein, carbs and fat. If you want to get big, then eat big.

Also you need to get on a proper routine. Dumbbell squats are not going to get you big. You must start doing barbell squats and deadlifts if you even want to hope to get big. Starting Strength or Stronglifts 5x5 are good routines for beginners, but at beginner stage you should be squatting 3x a week, increasing weight in a linear fashion until you can't anymore, then you move onto something else.

The argument I have heard against just gaining a whole bunch of weight without watching what you eat is that when you cut, you will end up with less muscle than if you gained weight at a normal pace. That is why I don't just shove everything into my mouth.

I can bench 400 lbs. How did I do it?

Not be a wuss and tried higher weights. Most wusses max out at 225.

Hi Sinister.

You're right about not shoving in just anything, but when you're eating big you can get away with a LOT of stuff. Here's the link to the vault (which is stickied) and take a look at the two post named "Guide to Bulking Up" and "Guide to Cutting Up".

Good luck!
