In this thread,I'm asking how to get as strong as possible, not just bulk up.

I'm 24,6',167 lbs and cosidered strong because I can can lift more than my own body weight.

I am a hard gainer, but I already look good! I just want to get as strong as humanly possible for my body type.

Does any one have info or resources that work? I'm looking for some straight up advice without any bull****.

I can squat nearly twice my bodyweight, and I'm somewhat heavier than you. What does that make me?

To get stronger, keep on lifting progressively heavier weights in good form.

I didn't ask for any one's attitude problem on here. I'll chop sewy you in two!!

I was talking about bench press any way. Have you never heard that if you can bench more than your body weight, then you are cosidered strong.

I'm looking for resources and info.

I measure strength in the squat rack. :D

If you're reasonably experienced then go for WSB as EFFORT suggested, though I tried it once and didn't much like it.

i don't think you're strong till you can bench your bodyweight +100 lbs at least.

well no one told you how to get bigger, lift in a range of 4-6. do your warm up sets and after that do not lift light for the rest of the workout. doing this youll need to eat somewhat more, but i dont think your goign to gain that much fat.

that is bull**** imo, your older, therefore your body is more mature and you will obviously be able to lift more naturally more than say someone that is 15 years old. if you can lift around your bodyweight or even surpass it on chest and back around the age of 16-18 imo i believe you are strong. plus go ahead and say your strong, but for the most part, i dont know you and you could have good form, but i see like 50+% of people doing everything wrong, form wise. people do some really ****ty squats, leg press and many other things and include these in their stats....

hey man... calm down, i didn't say i could, although i'm close, haven't maxxed in a long time.

A) There's a shytload of high schoolers (16-18) that can put on bodyweight + 100, I know because there were a ton at my school (we had an "achievement board" and that was one of the achievements)

b) I was more chastising the original poster because it's not good to fall into an egotistical, self-congratulatory habit like that. If you're like "ohhh... I can curl 25 lbs, i'm super buff" then you won't work hard to get it up. Just like when people say "ohh, abs are mostly genetics" and then use it as a cop out to not diet down and get a six pack.

I'm just trying to keep him from being a ****y SOB ;)

Since this fast becoming a 'what is strong' thread, I'll say this much.

Strength athletes in the weight lifting field are powerlifters, they train bench, squat AND deadlift, therefore I reckon strength should be measured over all three of these major lifts; someone might be genetically gifted to bench large amounts but their deadlift and squat would be laughable. However, an excellent bencher with a good squat and deadlift would be considered strong, yes.

(I'm the exact opposite by the way, my bench is significantly weaker than the other lifts, at which I excel)

Strength is also relative, genetic, blah blah blah. There's other factors to consider too: bottom-heavy athletes suited best to squatting and the like would have trouble doing pullups since their strength is concentrated in the hips-legs-glutes powerbase, yet someone with stringy wheels but a strong upper body would find chins a breeze.

If you want to applaud something, then effort, self-improvement, and dedication are to be admired, not the fact you can bench 400lbs for example - if your ass is only a buck 63 so what?

I measure strength based on tests that measure as much bodily power as possible. One-armed chinups require tremendous strength and muscle control, so they're a good measure. The deadlift is a good one too. But the one-armed side press is the best measure. That's why all the old-timey strongmen did it.
