hi, i was wondering about the following questions :

1 - is there any way to bulk up/ have an athletic body without going to the gym ? like practising sports / having a menial work ? i'm saying this because i don't have access to the gym, mainly because it's summer and i'm not living in a fixed location. i was thinking about trying rugby and sprinting because these guys look so big

2 - ok, this question has a lot to do with number one. let's say u guys are saying working out is a necessity to have the muscles. do you know any exercices that i can do without machines ? like i'm now in a friend's home and next week in a hotel so do u know any training ideas ?

3 - how do you guys organize yourself with the regime ? i've seen Diesel's guide and other advice on the net, and i understood i have to eat lean healthy foods every three hours or so. so do you carry around a backpack full of meat sandwiches ? how do you do if you work with people for let's say 4/5 hours straight ?

4 - about muscle growing / development : if i follow a strict regime and take the right exercices with proper sleep, how much muscles can i expect to grow in one month ?

5 - about not working out : i was sick one month ago, not completely sick but completely unable to do any sports or going out. then i felt i lost almost HALF of the muscles i gained . i don't have the figures because i don't have the weighing machines or something to measure bodyfat, but that was terrifying. so if one guy stops working out during one monthe, how much muscles can he expect to loose ?

ok thanks

Sprinting doesn't build much muscle mass. Neither does rugby. The feeling of soreness you get from those is caused by a build up of lactic acid. Those guys look so big because they hit the gym. Stop making excuses, dude. There are gyms everywhere.

You should never use machines. They suck. Do these 10 exercises and you'll hit every muscle:
squats
deadlifts
stiff legged deadlifts
incline dumbbell press or bench press
weighted dips
lateral raises
dumbbell press or military press
pull-ups
bent-over one-arm dumbbell rows
calf raises

The main thing you need is PROTEIN. Get one gram of protein per pound of bodyweight to build muscle mass.

Carry protein bars with you to work.

You need to have protein in your stomach pretty much at all times. That means eat something with protein in it every 3 to 4 hours.

You'll be surprised how strong you get. I suggest keeping a journal to chart your gains. I doubled what I could lift during the course of my first month; that's just my experience however.

Not much, actually. Too bad you didn't write down what weights you lifted, because you may be surprised.

As a matter of fact, it's good to take a week off every couple months to give your central nervous system a rest.

good post to his questions. awesome post.

My brother works for a company called pittards. He shifts huge barrells, the company mainly deals with leather. My brother, at one point, was fvcking huge. I mean massive. I used to think he juiced until I talked about it recently. He could bench 400lbs, deadlift 540 and squat about 520. Though he hardly went to the gym, only with the guys from work, he was the strongest.

Ever seen the worlds strongest man on TV? They basically train without any weights. They concentrate on lifting the obects they would be in the competition. Free weights are good, but menial work can still make you as strong as an ox.

I agree, stop making excuses and get to a council run gym or something. Somewhere, I'm sure, will let you do individual pay-on-the-day style days. If not, sign up somewhere for a month. Reach down, grab your balls and get to a gym to make yourself look like a real man ;)

Buy a set of dumbbells or a barbell and set of weights. Plenty of exercises you can do.

It doesn't matter how good-looking you are, how romantic you are, how funny you are... or anything else. If she doesn't have something INVESTED in you and the relationship, preferably quite a LOT invested, she'll dump you, without even the slightest hesitation, as soon as someone a little more "interesting" comes along.

but what about overtraining ? think about a swimmer. he swims everyday, gets sored muscles and he has to rest at some point right?. i'm sure these guys don't go to the gym, and still they have huge shoulders and arms

He hit the gym prior to working for them, knowing you'd have to be strong or you wouldnt last. He used to be about 5'10, medium build, 160lbs. About 4 years later, still at pittards, he was eating like a horse and was at about 210. Of course some fat went on, he wasnt too bothered about that. another four years down the line, he leaned up and got to about 215 after occasionally going to the gym to work on the big powerlifting excersizes.

We used to make jokes about him being a pin head, cause he went bald at the age of 22 which made his head look smaller anyway, heh.

Unless you're going to spend 9 hours a day lifting barrells, scraping your arms and chest to hell carrying HEAVY and awkward containers, I'd hit the gym. It's possible to get big and strong without weightlifting. A lot of farm workers end up huge. As do some construction workers. But it's a lot easier to be lifting iron.

[if you do the math, 9 hours a day, five days a week is 45 hours... he went through hell, and still works for them. been in the job 13 years. Yeah he was 'overtrained'. It didnt matter though, it was his job ;)]
