I am currently a senior in high school, my grades are ok, but they do not allow me to get into the school of my choice.

My plan is to go to a community college after high school, then transfer into a major University.

This is the problem: I have to move out after high school.

Right now I'm in the second semester of High School, should I just drop out and get my GED...and from now until community college starts work full time so I can save some money to rent a place?

I see no benefit for me to stay in high school and get my diploma, because I'm going to go to community college anyway.....I can just get my GED now, be done with high school, and start community college when it begins.

Is this a good idea? or am i missing something?

Why not get a scholarship to a school you're not that big about THEN strive and go to the school of your choice. You can still work and survive on your own if your classes are taken care of via scholarship. Getting a GED isn't horrible idea but passing on a standard diploma isn't the best. G.E.D. is a Good Enough Degree and is often court ordered. You can be one of those people and make it just as well but it involves additional schooling that you can avoid just by working a little bit harder and geting a standard diploma and has less litigation behind it. Just come up with a different pan for the same goal and you should be fine.

I say do it. HS diplomas do not mean sh^t in todays world.
You would be much better off leaving HS and as soon as the next semester of community college starts you can enroll. You will get a better education as you get your general ed requirements, have more diverse options, and be able to take more advanced classes.

I assume you are around 16? You can easily have your associates degree when the rest of your peers are getting there diplomas and easily have a bachelors by the age of 19 or 20. Don't be afraid just because you are young.

You will also find the college enviroment much more enjoyable to learn in.

Ironically, you are dropping out to get ahead, but I think it is worth it. As soon as you have a college degree, no one will care about your high school experience. High schools want you to stay, because their money from the government is based on a daily head count of students. The benefits of high school are mostly non-academic, like sports and socializing. They know that high school is pretty useless, so states like Illinois have made laws like requiring four years of physical education to graduate from high school. This effectively ended all early graduation - the state and the teacher's union makes more money because of it.

Go for it. As long as you go to college and obtain that degree your on the right path. I'm a senior myself and have wanted to drop out and get my GED and start college early since last year and I am academically pretty smart. My parents wouldn't let me they didn't want me to miss out on the social interaction of highschool and I do not regret staying in highschool up to this point. For my last sememster Of Highschool I'm dual enrolling at a community college so I'm earning college credit and highschool credits at the sametime. My friends are all envious b/c I only have class two days a week. I thought about getting another job during my days off but i decided to put in more time golfing, hitting the gym, and helping with a volunteer organization.
