...well, almost nothing.
A lot of talk is made in the community about how to gauge a girl's interest level through text or what to say in those crucial interactions at the beginning to move from #-close to the date.
Lately, I've been doing almost nothing.
Indeed, a good strategy for determining whether a girl wants you to text her or wants you to ask her out on a date is to give her absolutely nothing to converse with in your initial interactions. If she responds, she's likely interested and you can game on as appropriate. On the contrary, if she doesn't respond or uses it as an opportunity to duck out, you're in the clear and have saved yourself time and money.
Initial Text Message
I never ask a question. I never try and joke around, unless it's ****y-funny. I always say who I am and where we met. It's clear from the initial text message that I'm gauging her interest level by trial texting.
Examples:
Me: Hey its [dingmachine] from friday we met at [x]
OR
Me: Hey can't come in to your work today too hectic at the office don't be too sad
The theme of the initial text message is laconic and blase. A take-it-or-leave-it approach. The ones who want you will respond instantly, or within 30 minutes. The ones who are on the fence will take a few hours to a day. I automatically delete, as a rule, any girl who doesn't respond to an initial text message within 24 hours unless she has an awesome explanation for why she didn't respond.
Example:
Me: hey it's [dingmachine] your friends at [x] were insane
Her: (two days later) I know! How's your day?
I DO NOT RESPOND. EVER. If she double texts, she's back in.
Me: hey it's [dingmachine] your friends at [x] were insane
Her: (two days later) I know! Sorry I didn't respond for a while my phone was lost. How's your day?
Me: Good let's meet at [x] on weds 9pm.
Here, she gets a response BUT her commitment level remains vulnerable to immediate assessment. I immediately ask for the date because I suspect losing her phone is a ****ty excuse for blowing me off.
Her: Sure!
She gets the date.
Her: [anything other than an enthusiastic response to my date request]
Me: Cool see you then
Me: (the next day, or the morning of the date) hey nvm about meeting up tonight too busy at work sorry
She can take it from here. A preemptive flake will move a girl off the fence to one side or the other. You can get an immediate indication of her interest level based upon her response to your flake.

I haven't asked a girl a question in a text message in I don't know how long.
Me: hey can't come in to your work today too crazy at the office don't be too sad
Her: haha i actually have the day off i gave up my shift
Me: (three hours later) jealous.....
Her: (thirty minutes later) Haha ikr!
Initially, this looks as though she's blowing me off, but she's not. She responded (two words to my one), and her time of response was shorter than my delay. She also laughed at a joke that wasn't funny. This is an indicator of interest, though slight. This exact text message stream came from a girl I blew off for a week before texting the first time.
Here's what it would look like if I was getting blown off:
Me: hey can't come in to your work today too crazy at the office don't be too sad
Her: haha i actually have the day off i gave up my shift
Me: (three hours later) jealous.....
Her: [SILENCE]
She's put on 24-hour notice. No response within 24 hours means I delete her number and move on.
The Day of the Date/The Day Before the Date
Change the time of your meet. You will ferret out a flake this way better than any other method I've come up with.
Me: hey let's meet at 930 instead of 9 tonight
Her: Ok sounds good!
It's on.
Me: hey let's meet at 930 instead of 9 tonight.
Her: Actually I can't make it because [insert stupid excuse here]. Can we reschedule?
Me: gay
24-hour rule applies again. If she doesn't respond within 24 hours, she gets deleted. Notice how I didn't directly tell her I could reschedule.
If she's interested:
Me: gay
Her: I know I'm sorry. I'm free next week on Tuesday does that work for you?
Me: yes same time same place and you owe me one hun
If she's not interested:
Her: I know I'm really sorry.
