I've been drip feeding her attention and its been working her interest was growing & growing

UNTIL

my dumb ass house mate who used to be in a relationship with HB 8's best friend

decides to message HB 8's best friend telling her that I'm REALLY interested in HB 8 and she should 'set us up"

once this gets back to HB 8 true or not all the tension & mystery will get drained out of the frame and I'm basically fvcked

the only option i can see is too now go completely ghost and hope to god HB 8 is curious enough to ask what all this is about

can anyone else see an angle I'm missing ? could this be used to my advantage in anyway ?

Agreed, he's a piece of sh!t, but try to make the best of it. At some point she may try to get in contact with you again, so just pick it up from there as if nothing happened maybe? Let her be the one to bring up "oh so-and-so said you liked me?"

The point is try not to let your frustration get you too bent out of shape. Alpha = being in control = being in control of this situation, right? Temporary loss of control from this guy is temporary. Re-establish control, get back in the game.

This has happened to me so many times with my best friend... I would take an interest and he would go out his way to declare my interest for her and how "how hot I think she is" and generally just ruin my chances. Going ghost works but seriously... It's one of the main reason I keep my dating life quiet to be honest.

Just maintain control. My advice would be to stop all communications with her immediately. If she messages you, be short with your replies. Once she gets word of your "attraction" to her, she'll likely become cold with her responses. It's better to do it first and leave her wondering what happened.

If she asks if what your friend said is true, say calmly "that you have no idea what he's talking about".

If HB8 has been hanging out with you all this time, then it's pretty likely that right now after hearing the news from her friend, she's actually pissed off with you because you haven't already tried to jump her.

Stay your same cool self and if she keeps talking to you, then she's keen.
She probably won't, but if she does ask you something along the lines of 'do you like me?', just say 'Yep' like it's a done deal. If she doesn't shoot you down straight away, make a move.

If she's a big player with a big social circle, is she also a quality woman? Look at it objectively.

But yes, the higher her value the more important your strategic use of time and attention. I'd back off in those circumstances.
