I don't even know if I can technically call this a field report, and on top of that, the whole thing...just screams AE.

So, New Years Eve, my roommate was talking to some of his buddies, and they were thinking of Toronto and a concert and good stuff like that. They invited me along, but I had to pick up furniture yesterday, so they left earlier then I did for Toronto, and I'd just get in touch with them there.
So, I finally got into Toronto around 6pm, and I called up my roommate, and...his phone is off. Shiit. So, all thoughout the night, I was driving around, and trying to call my roommate, because I had no fricking idea where they were at, and I knew I'd never find them by luck. So, I hit up this internet cafe around 8pm (parking is a bitach BTW), and pissed away a good 45 minutes, and then I sat there and thought, what the fvck am I doing. I came to Toronto to celebrate New Years among thousands of people...and I'm sitting in an Internet Cafe idling away time. So I went to SS.net, and posted a wingman request (no one replied, haha), and then I went and got a map of the larger clubs in Toronto (Afterlife).
So, once that was done, I headed out to hit the clubs. Parked the car, made sure I was paid up and covered until 12am when they stop caring about parking infractions, and I set off for the 2 block walk to Afterlife. Unfortunely, I needed a ticket to get in, so now I'm really in a jam. I can't get into any place decent because I need tickets that I clearly wouldn't be able to obtain, so...I asked one of the bouncers where's a place I can get into, and he suggested the Fox and The Hound, a pub block away. He got distracted because I was going to ask for more questions, but I set off instead for this pub.
I didn't have much to go with at the moment, and hell, why not right? So I entered the pub, it was a very nice pub, went upstairs and back down to see what was around, and downstairs there was a pool table and a job of about 5 people. So, I walked up and I said that I'm lost, got ditched and wanted to know if they'd let me roll with them. Sure enough they let me play. Chatted with them for a bit, found out one guy's a lawyer, the only girl in the group is his fiance, and another guy to be a high school teacher. We played a few games together and talked back and forth about life and how the hell I ended up there, and then the lawyer and fiance went back to their hotel, but the high school teacher and me set off for another pub because the big celebration at city hall wasn't until 12 (lol..). Exchanged contact information in case we ever find ourselves in each other's cities and grabbed a cab.
So, we're at the new pub, it's another fairly nice pub, didn't catch the name of it but it's around Yonge and Wooley?. So, we had a drink and talked back and forth, exchanged life histories and discussed women and jobs, all kinds of good stuff. He came out and said he found out he was bi, which was alright, and all and all, it was a good way to pass time. After our drinks, it was almost that time, so we set off for city hall, and we got there and celebrated New Years together, among thousands of people. Then Hedley opened up the stage and I wanted a picture, so I went and took my picture, and looked back and he was gone.
So all and all, it was definitely a different New Years then what I expected. Instead of my plans to hit the club, pick up some biatches and get hammered, I found myself meeting some decent people, and discovering that heck, my theory of chance really does work. For all I know, I mighta been still at that Internet Cafe, or lost driving around. And it wasn't a bad New Year, not at all.
So, in closing...
Expectation is unmaterialistic, so never count on it to happen exactly the way you want. Conversely, make the best of what you have of your current situation, and enjoy the oddities in life. Lastly, take advantage of chance, and knowing that every event in your life put you where you are standing today, from missed cell phone calls, to a display of self-confidence in approaching an unknown group of people, and for myself, man I love my GPS laptop, or else I'd probably would never of found anything.
Cheers to a New Year! :cheer::cheer::woo::rockon:
