I live in New York State. My wife is unemployed (has been for a year and a half). No kids. She's an immigrant (South Korea) and I'm a U.S. citizen. Neither of us has a criminal record. My wife has always had a temper, but her abuse has escalated to the point where she has threatened to buy a gun and kill me. She scratched my face and hands last night and threatened to call the police and tell them I beat her. She called 911 twice on her cell phone last night and hung up immediately but pretended to cry and tell them I beat her in order to scare me. I don't really know what to do. She is much smaller than me, obviously, and I know in cases of domestic violence the police have a tendency to favor women. I have sound recordings of her being belligerent and yelling hysterically and photos of the scratches on my hands and face. My biggest concern, of course, is that if I go to the police with all this stuff I'll wind up being the one arrested. I should mention she has no cuts, bruises, or anything, but I doubt that would matter much if she cries in front of them. What can I do? I'm very scared and very tired.

I call this scenario the "one week Romeo" scenario. American man corresponds with foreign woman, goes to visit her for a week (because American employers. of course, have such horrible vacation policies), and then makes the "big decision" to marry her. Either he marries her at the end of his trip and sponsors her immigration as a spouse, or sponsors her for a fiancee visa, in which he would need to marry her within 90 days of her entry into the USA.

It is rather easy for a woman to put on her best behavior for a week (i.e., very nice and sexually receptive, etc.) Then once she gets to his home, the REAL woman comes out - the same woman that the local men would not put up with.

As I am an expat dating such foreign women, my plan is just stay in her country for a while, and not even think about moving to the USA until our kids would be old enough so that living in the USA would be worth it. Of course, I would court such a woman for much, much longer than a week - in fact, I've dated a few women with whom I considered marrying, but found out their bad side and got out; had I been one of these "one week Romeo's", I might have been in a similar situation to this poor guy.

All this problems are the result of a snowball effect started when the first man few decades ago didnt deliver a backhand on a woman who needed it.

Anyway I say again hopefully someone will find it useful, women are herd creature and not prone to logic but have a very sofisticated survival instict, yeah they know that if they call the police she will be considered the victim no matter how and that most courts will support her however if they know that the wrongfully punished man is a bad guy (a real one not a guido with some muscles) which would tear her down once out, she will definitely not risk it.

Its hard to believe but its much more likely to risk to be wrongfully mistreated a good guy than a bad guy, the bad guy whatever sh1t a woman throws at him he multiply it by 10 before returning it to her.

Not so rare the cases of divorced women who didnt steal a single coin from the ex husband cause they were sure that he would have rather kill them than giving a cent no matter how many cops or judges were in the middle.
