As I retreat to the confines of my home office, away from the din of friends and family trading stories, spilling cranberry sauce on my carpet and the thunderous crashes from Project Gotham Racing on my XB360, I come across a post on Craigslist by a single woman about my age.

I read it and feel both envious of the solitude she writes about but also feel empathy for her situation and of those who are also single without family on this holiday. Although definitely written through the eyes of a woman, I believe some guys can relate to her words.

I include a link to her post not knowing what to expect for replies from this forum's members. I just hope to have something interesting to read in a couple of hours after I clean my carpet, have a couple of turns on XBox and eventually retreat back to my "Fortress of Solitude."

Happy Thanksgiving to all.....

Nah, probably would have been too easy. My gut said that there could be some unpacked baggage there. But who am I kidding? SHE DIDN'T POST A D@MN PIC!!!!! ;)

I personally enjoyed some of those quiet holidays alone. No running around, last minute errands, preparing, planning, co-ordinating, etc. Just me, some taco bell and the TV.

Maybe it comes down to being comfortable with yourself and not looking to others to define your happiness, but I was never envious of others during the holidays I spent alone.

Of course, a house full of people is nice too. We had an awesome shindig. I've been sick the last couple days, so it gave me great pride to watch my wife go into "superwoman" mode. She did everything, and didn't complain one bit. I owe her a major back rub later :)

Francisco, I'm with Bible_Belt on this one. She probably would've sent you a picture if you asked, and shown you plenty of "gratitude" for the invite! Pouty women are great in the sack too. But maybe it's best that you trusted your instincts. Good luck with the carpet cleaning, and hopefully you own a good steam cleaner LOL.

Well my guests are bugging me about the hot tub, so have a great turkey day (if applicable) my SS brothers!

I'd enjoy the solitude myself, or at least have something a bit more intimate. Too much work, too much clean up, too much cranberry sauce. I wouldn't have mind as much if I had Friday off but no such luck.

I'm pretty sure that I could have gotten a picture or maybe even a coffee date for after work if I had tried. My problem is that I'm actually "trying" to start up a relationship with one woman. Unfortunately through lack of communication I didn't know how high her interest level was so I kept sarging heavily.

Cutting to the chase, I have two new women from the Net who want to meet up tomorrow, one that want to hook up on Saturday too, a different one that wants to hook up on Saturday and my primary target will get back in town either Saturday or Sunday and wants to spend time together.

Stupid me, I'm burning the candle at both ends and in the middle. Yeah, I really need to toss in another woman who's possibly needy and emotional....

But back to the topic of the thread, my life occasionally makes me envious of people who aren't always involved with family and friends on the holidays. I understand it sucks to be alone for several holidays but if you have a hectic life, the time off alone can be very beneficial.

D@mn, Taco Bell and a couple of movies would have made me happy today....

I dont get the point of the thread?

I only have a few questions. What is thanksgiving? I know you eat turkey, but whats it for?

What is the girl going to do in a coffee shop for 5 more hours? That is scary enough!

She is a typical human being, wanting companionship.

Doesnt she have family or friends? She only seems to be complaining about not having a LTR.

Interesting post, and one that does make you glad when you realise you are in a good LTR. It is sometimes the little things that you miss the most when you dont have one.

Other than that. Yeah I can understand where you guys are coming from. I also need alone time if I have been around people for too long. Just to sit and relax, its also good to read or play games, puts you in your own little imaginary world and is very theraputic.

If she had my day she would be very thankful for her solitude.

I carted 4 kids to my sister's camp in the snow down a dirt road...but only after spending two freaking hours trying to find some dinner rolls at my sister's insistence. "No brown and serve rolls because the turkey takes up the whole oven at camp. They have to be already cooked." Grrrr...
I live in a small city now and every damn store that sells rolls was closed and the restaurants that sold them were sold out. I got fresh sandwich rolls and told her to like them or else.

Oh...and my 5 year old threw up in the car after I got the rolls. We were on a back road at that point, nothing was open and we didn't have anything but a paper bag to clean her and the car up with. Another beautiful holiday with the kiddos and family...

I'd have preferred a nice quiet bubble bath with a good book. :D

UPDATE: "Five Hours Left" - A Soliloquy by a Single Woman On Thanksgiving

Well guess what, she was literally deluged with replies to her post (surprise, surprise). The sad thing about it, there were several AFCs who either ragged on her that the breakup was probably her fault or they were pissed off at her because she had yet to reply to their email. THE WOMAN GOT OVER 200 EMAILS IN THE COURSE OF A DAY!!!

Side note: Guys feel that meeting women from the Net is a futile cause; not really. If the majority of the guys are AFCs who can't wait a few days for an email reply, it makes it rather easy for DJs to stand out from the crowd.

None the less, here's what she has posted as a global reply to the tons of guys who reached out to her. Ironic that now she has a myriad of guys who want to spend time with her. Sometimes its wise to consider before you wish for things out loud, someone may be listening.

My five hours turned into several days of emails - 35
