I'm having a hard time developing strong fingers and it's effecting my workouts. I had surgery on my left ring finger last year but since then it's healed completely, however I'v noticed that since I've been going to the gym my wrist strength and hand size has diminished to proportions much smaller than the rest of my body. I've been squeezing that bar pretty hard when I lift and doing 'hanging' exercises aswell as using those gripping handles but it's not helping much. I use to have pretty strong fingers and this is really aggrivating.

I would do some kind of rock climbing if there was one at my gym but unfortunately thats not the case. Anyone have any ideas or exercises I can try?

Uhh you should think first.. how about fingertip pushups? that squeeze thing that'll work ur wrist and finger. Also hanging ONLY by ur fingers on bars will help maybe do some pullups using only ur fingers.

I have those hand grip things but my mid hand area is getting bulky but not my fingers, I don't know why.

Finger pushups? Is that when you do pushups but instead of using a flat palm you support the weight with the fingers? Nah I'm not that far ahead yet

1. Change where you rest the weight on your hands when you do a pushup. Switch from the base of your palm, to the area under your knuckles.

2. Using a light weight do some wrist exercises and roll the dumbbellonto your fingers.

3. Perform finger stretches. Outstretch your fingers and hold for 20 seconds, than make a tight fist for 10 seconds. Repeat 5 times rest for a minute and repeat for a set of three.

4. Point your hand directly in front of you and point your fingers into the air with your palm facing away. Place your other palm into your hand and hold the stretch for 20 seconds, alternate stretching your hands for 5 sets.

5. Suspend yourself by your fingers on a pull-up bar, and lift your palm to the bar.

LOL, to regain the muscle memory in your fingers perform blind finger taps. place your palm on a table while your sitting idle at your desk and tap each finger on the table one by one. When this is sufficiently easy to do, tap adajcent fingers(pinky and middle, ring and index, middle and thumb, index and pinky, thumb and ring)

Grippers are one of the best things you can do. Also, grab heavy dumbells and just hold them as long as possible. Or, wrap towels around a bar and do pullups holding onto the towels. Grab a shovel and go dig a hole without using your foot. It's really common sense. Rock climbing is GREAT for finger strength, although I would advise building up some finger strength before beginning climbing, esp. real mountain walls. Grab two weight plates and hold them with your fingers and thumb for as long as you can. I could go on and on...

I've found that the exercises above are great for hand strength, but if you wish to isolate the fingers try squeezing a tennis ball for extended periods of time. I do separate grips to exercise different fingers.

Grippers. Plate Holds (Plate 'Pinches'. Towel Hangs.
All those mentioned above DO increase finger strength via grip.

Oh and those things where you use your fingers instead of a flat palm. Oh what are they? Finger pushups.
You guys crack me up.

Just research grip training. Go for it.

Do pullups on a thick bar. If there's no thick bar around, wrap your bar with a towel until you can't close your hand around it. Make sure you don't puss out and use your hands as "hooks" - grip the fúck out of that bar!

i forget what they are called, but it's a device that looks like the letter 'V' and you put it in your hand and squeeze it for reps..i have one ,it helps create an awesome grip and strong fingers..

they kinda look like these things-

but these are NOT the actual product..i forgot the name..
Those things give you hand strength but not individual finger strength. There's a device that us guitarist been using for years called the Gripmaster which rocks for overall hand/finger strength.

Grip strength training. Either do alot of heavy movements on back day, which will lead to increaded grip strenght, or specialize using wrist rollers, grip trainers (Captain of Crush is my fav.) and pinch strenght tests where you take a heavy weight and hold it out in front of you with your fingers for as long as you can.
