Finding out a chicks name

Ok yeah I know I'm going to get flamed for starting a thread asking ridiculous questions. haha Is this some kind of a dominance game with chicks? Usually in polite society, people tell you their name as a signature in a letter or formal introduction. However most of the chicks I write to on the internet don't give their name right away, or at all. So when I'm proceeding from email to text/phone I kind of need to know their name. But yet, I feel like I'm giving up the frame of dominance by asking their name. It's just an awkward question to ask. Has anyone else come across this situation and how do you handle it?
