Finally a movie gets it right.

How many of you have seen My Best Friend's Girl?

For those of you who haven't, the premise is that Jason Biggs is a huge AFC...watches chick flicks...acts like a nice guy, not because he is a nice guy, but because he thinks it's what works...his girlfriend dumps him when he prematurely tells her he loves her...so he hires Dane Cook to go on a date with her and act like as a total jerk so she'll come crawling back to him...only she doesn't and likes Dane Cook.

The Jason Biggs character is portrayed as this huge AFC...takes his girlfriend (Kate Hudson) out on five star dinner dates and such and they've only been dating for a few weeks. She even says "You know what I like about you...you pay for dinner."

Biggs comments on how Dane Cook is manipulative. Cook says "How's it any different than you showing a girl a just a highlight reel of yourself?" The other funny thing is Biggs acts all high and mighty but he has the biggest porn collection in the world.

When Kate Hudson LJBFs Biggs...he starts being her b*tch, bringing her coffee, sends her a DVD copy of When Harry Met Sally to try to manipulate her into liking him...does clothes shopping with her.

The funniest part of the movie is Alec Baldwin as Dane Cook's father. He's a professor and teaches a feminism class but it's all an act to seduce young hot women. Dane Cook is describing Kate Hudson to Baldwin, and Baldwin says to his HB secretary "You'll have to excuse my son...he rates women on a 10 scale based solely on physical beauty"...then she bends over and he whispers to Cook "You see that ass?"

Some of you who have seen the movie might not like how Dane Cook falls for Kate Hudson...but they make a good couple...both raunchy, cool people.

I just found it refreshing that not only does the AFC not get the girl...but that he's the butt of a lot of jokes in the movie.

I haven't seen it, but I heard bad things. Anything with Dane Cook in a starring role seems to be poison (Employee of the Month, Good Luck Chuck). The best movies he was involved in were Mystery Men and Waiting... (both small roles, the first is basically a cameo).

In any case, yes it's nice to see a more realistic romance plot, but in the end he still falls for her like in any movie.

Now that I think about it, I may have to waste some time watching it. Alec Baldwin is great, and looking at the cast list I'm always ready to see more Lizzy Caplan or Diora Baird.

That movie was hilarious. When I saw it in theaters I instantly thought Biggs was an AFC and Cook was a DJ. Alec Baldwin makes the movie tolerable.

Eh...Dane Cook is really annoying, to me.

But I'll check it out just because you've said so confusedstate.

Just Friends is also good, in similar vein to the movie described in the OP--the main character basically describing DJ mentality to the audience, but only certain people will pick it up, others will probably dismiss it as hollywood.

This is a great movie. I always found it odd that so many people hate Dane Cook and yet I've met many people who act just like he does around their buddies. They make the same kind of jokes but then say "Dane sucks."

Maybe it's because Dane acts TOO MUCH like a regular funny guy instead of trying to go over the top?

But most people I met joke around the same way Dane does. I never understood all the hate he gets for being real and down to earth.

The movie is hilarious and shows that being an AFC is really all an act. No guy WANTS to act like Jason Biggs does in the movie, but they act like that because they think "Hey I'm super nice! I'm different from all the other guys out there. She HAS to like me!" Most AFC's are fake and can't figure out why their scam doesn't work.
