Master Don Juan
A semi-AFC friend I rarely see called me up on Saturday morning, telling me about the 21st party of a friend of his I'd only met twice.
The guy specifically wanted me to go, which is surprising considering it was a smallish event and I barely know him.
So my friend, his GF, a female friend of theirs from school and I all caught the train together. The friend is probably a HB7.5 in looks....easy fodder for a DJ I hear you say?
Well, no. The girl is a real b1tch. Probably a 3 in personality. I remember once she avoided eye contact with me in the tram for 15 whole minutes...I only wanted to say hi, b1tch.
For the whole train ride she didn't look at me once, and would only answer my few questions with brief nothing answers. For a while the three of them were talking about people I didn't know, hard to belong when you're excluded like that.
Many things were said and body language made that were enough to piss me off, but I kept complete composure. The funny thing is, these people know absolutely NOTHING of my new DJ lifestyle! To them, i was just the wimpy, meek kid from high school.
It was all fine by me though. If I was still that shy DAFC I would have folded before the night started. The only people I would know at the party were those 3 and the birthday boy (didn't really know him though!).
We walked in the bar (me first as per usual), congratulated the birthday boy and got some free drinks from the open bar.
My friend, while a great guy when not around his GF, would be a terrible wingman and is not great at assimilating people into conversations (def. not the leader type). He knew a lot of guys there, but I was pretty much left to my own devices.
So without hesitation I started chatting to two guys who I noticed greeted my friend when we came in. In barely five minutes, I seemed to have generated amazing rapport with them.
They were top blokes and began talking to me as if they knew me for years! Telling them to keep away from HB7.5 b1tch must have helped - they loved my style and said I was "extroverted enough to start talking to us" (no-one's called me that before!). BTW, one of them had a go at the b1tch and came back after 2 minutes saying, "She doesn't talk very much, does she!"
So bang! right there I had social proof and some new drinking buddies for the night.
After about 40 mins with them, two cute chicks walked in the pub and had their photo with the birthday boy. They both looked similar, HB7 or HB7.5, so I decided that any one of them would do nicely.
One of them went to get drinks leaving the other alone, so I made my move with a simple, "Hey, hows it going?" She was very receptive and we had good eye contact, tonight was actually the first time I saw a girl's pupil's dilate!
But barely a couple of moments in, her friend came back with the drinks, which I expected. Girl A actually introduced me to Girl B, who definitely appeared to be applying a c*ckblock. Having put up with many c*ckblocks in the past week (read the college thread) I was more adequately prepared.
I lightened the mood by including her in the conversation and using a mild neghit about Girl As navigational abilities (which she had told me were pathetic). Eg "So Girl A tells me you took on driving AND navigation duties tonight, did you cope OK?". Since this was received well I followed up with, "Sounds like you girls need a man in the car to help out!"
KACHING! I returned focus back to my target, Girl A, and Girl B having been satisfied with my performance wandered away.
Interesting thing was, this happened twice more in the next 20 minutes! The second time I dealt with it in a similar way, and passed the test again. The third CB was timely as I had planned to leave her for now and return to my new buddies. (The last party I made the mistake of spending too long with the girl - 3 hours LOL). So I told the girls I was going to mingle and I'd see them later on.
This could have increased interest, and Girl B might even have been told off by Girl A for scaring me off. Who knows?
So I returned to those two guys, who had noticed me macking and gained even more respect for me. I hung around them for more than an hour, passing on advice and just having a blast hearing some good jokes and such.
Had a funny moment when the friend I entered with came up and said, "Hey, I saw you talking to that girl before, do you know her? (he'll rarely talk to someone he doesn't know)". "Nuh!" I said and raised my glass.
That brings me to another point, when assimilating with new guys, bringing over fresh beers and initiating raising your glasses together really helps to boost your alphaness. (After bringing over the first two rounds I didn't need to go to the bar again, they were free I admit but still it shows you are respected enough to be brought a beer).
During this time I was constantly scanning the room for more HBs, but since the party was for a 'bloke's bloke' there wasn't heaps on offer apart from the guy's sister (too old for me), people's GFs and HB1tch.
After the speeches I made my way back to Girl A, and spent the next 40 minutes chatting to her. Girl B didn't c*ckblock again...I guess I scored a victory there! Kino was very good, she actually initiated it back in the earlier 'stint' and kept it up during the longer stint. She probably kinoed my upper arm about 7 times (Yeah that's a tight tricep isn't it baby!
). I gave plenty of kino back.
I also tried mirroring (gestures, posture and speech pace) and she soon began mirroring me. Excellent!
One funny moment was when she said she gets flirty when she drinks a lot (duh!), so I said "Drink up!" and raised my glass. Then I neghitted about how slowly she drinks (that first drink had only been sipped three times in about 20 minutes!). Then, she got a Midori and lemonade and before I could realise what had happened having been engrossed in conversation, the glass was empty on the table! So then I started saying how much of a hardcore alcoholic she was and so on. (I had 6 beers by then, glad I can hold in my alcohol because I never said anything foolish. Defnintely didn't hinder my game)
Getting the number was a procession in the end, she was obviously ready for me to go for the digits. By the time I put it in my phone though, she had already entered my name in her phone, so even though that is not ideal for my sake I gave her my number anyway.
So then I left and went back to my two-man fan club. The look on their faces was priceless when I said I number closed! They loved me! Hehehe, I was once like them. I really should have introduced one to Girl B with hindsight but oh well.
So the three highlights of the night were definitely:
Having two random guys admire me as much as these two did in just two hours at the pub.
and,
Overcoming repeated c*ckblocks from a protective friend
and,
Putting the unpleasant trip to the back of my mind, growing my own pair of wings and breaking out of my comfort zone.
I left the pub at 11:45 after 3.5 hours of good times. Sunday was a big day, I got what I set out to achieve and was in time to catch the last train. A DJ needs his sleep.
One little problem though. She is Maltese by blood and lives at home with her parents. She also has three older brothers. My sister said to tread carefully because of this. I have little knowledge of Maltese people, can someone give me a little advice?
Now I'm unsure whether to pick her up for a date at her place, considering I may have to impress possibly nosy Maltese parents and one or more brothers. (I know my Greek relatives are VERY like this!)
Hope this field report was helpful to you guys.
