Dang everytime i decide to shave i keep getting this razor bumps, at first i shaves with clippers but they gave me a few bumps, then i tried regular razors and thats a bigggggggggggggggggg no no it gave me a whole bunch of bumps all over, then my dad told me about this razorblade made for black people(im black) thats helps prevent bumps called bump stopper im currently using that but i still get bumps not as many but i still get a few of them, my best option right now is clippers but i still get a few bumps though.

Does anybody know of any cream or form of shaving that would keep me bump free?

I dont have acne at all its only when i shave i get bumps and not on my face only under my chin/neck part, even using aftershave creams and lotions.

i use a bowie kife and water to shave.

haha j/k. No I use regular barbasol or colgate shaving cream and disposeable razors to shave. I use to get razor bumps when i was younger but not anymore. I dunno i guess it came with time or something where the skin on my face and neck has gotten tougher. But that's just a guess I really don't know why i don't get bad razor burn anymore.

H&F...

Step 1: Get an electric razor. Ask any dermatologist, these are far more condusive to a clean shave without razor bumps.

Step 2: Go to the grocery store and buy "Lectric Shave" (http://www.lectricshave.com/). There's also some sort of spin-off of this that is supposedly designed specifically for black men. I saw it at Walgreens near the Walgreen's version of Lectric Shave.

Step 3: Apply Lectric Shave (or alternative)

Step 4: Shave

Step 5: If you have access to a dermatologist, ask for a sample or two of Benzaclin. It's a white gel that you can put on your freshly shorn skin that will help your skin immensely. It's mainly for acne but I've found it works very well with razor bumps too. If you can't get it, try Bactroban ointment. If that's too pricey, Neosporin.

I use a Mach 3 Turbo on my face. It's the best razor I've ever used. On my neck I use a Braun electric. After I shave, I splash my face with Witch Hazel. Ingrown hairs can be battled with a mixture of aspirin dissolved in rubbing alcohol.

If nothing works then, I think, you may want to examine you shaving procedure and make it better:

a) make sure you LIKE you razor blade... you like what you hold in you hand. Dont go for very cheap models...Something similar to Mach 3 from Gillette will do just fine.
Dont go for fancy "revolutionry new" Gillette M3 Power - it may cause some irritation.

b) make sure it is sharp enough (i.e. blades are new enough)

c) make sure you apply hot water to your face before you start shaving.

d) make sure you apply a lot of shaving cream. A lot!

e) make sure you dont put too much pressure while shaving.

From what I could understand of that question I believe you're asking "what's the point of applying lectric shave before shaving?".

I went to ePinions.com and did a quick search. Here's a partial result:
You put Lectric Shave on before you shave (some call it a Pre-shave) and it dries out your whiskers so they stand up off your face more, making it easier for your electric shaver to cut them. Well, I am certainly impressed. Not only do I get a closer shave, but I can shave in less than 3 minutes now with no little persistant hairs left over, and no red, irritated neck!

Thanks, yes it was exactly my question sorry for being unclear.

The reviewer on the site ceritainly offered his own explanation though...it got me thinking ....lets just ask ourselves:

Can some liquid inexpensive solution dry your hair in a matter of seconds?

Are whiskers wet before you start shaving with electric razor?

Assume it can dry them. Do dry whiskers stand up off your face more than non-dry, i.e. regular, "wet" whiskers?
They are extremely short, they cannot just stick to the skin when wet as hair can.

I suspect lectric shave somehow make whiskers lose their elasticity, i.e. they cannot avoid the razor easily. But I am not entirely sure about it.

I found this:

----
Can razor bumps be prevented?
The following shaving instructions can prevent razor bumps from forming:

Take a hot shower before shaving to soften the hair and open the pores.
Use a thick shaving gel.
Don't stretch the skin when shaving and always shave in the direction your beard grows. Use the fewest razor strokes possible. Rinse with cold water.
An electric razor can be used if it can be adjusted to a higher setting.
Use a moisturizing lotion after shaving.
---

Moisturizing icreases elasticity and does opposite to drying hair.
So probably it is better to use moisturizing products that do not dry hair or decrease its elasticity.

Also:
----
...Small tender pimples, commonly known as razor bumps, can appear on the skin surface when closely cut hairs grow out and pierce back into the skin at a neighboring hair follicle.
---

Conclusion: yes, electric razor would do a better job, i.e. leave less razor bumps because it cut hair not as closely as a regular razor blade. So it general to decrease amount of razor bumps, you want to get not a very close shave.

i used to get razor burn and ingrown hairs on my neck when i shaved but i've found something that completely prevents this. i just apply some cortizone to the freshly shaved area after it dries off and in the past 6 months i've had maybe 1 or 2 times where i've gotten just a few bumps afterwards. i have no idea if this would work on black men but it surely couldn't hurt to try.

oh yea...i use that mach 3 turbo razor...the one that vibrates.

I just use the regular Mach3 turbo. I'm an arab, so I guess i might have facial hair like yours. I always shave after a hot shower. The steam and hot water face your skin softer and less likely to get irritated. Make sure you splash your face with hot water (as hot as you can stand) before putting on shaving cream. Then rub the shaving cream into your stubble against the grain, so you can kinda see it through the shaving cream. If you used hot water, your hair should be pretty easy to shave now. Don't go against the grain too much when you shave. probably at a right angle at the most against the grain.

after you finish shaving, splash COLD water on your face to close the pores.

Hey there, I'm african-american as well and recently overcame the same issues that you had. After a few months of internet searching and way too much money spent on products that didn't work for me, I'm happy to say I'm bump free. And I'll share my regimen and experiences with you.

First off, if you're having your first experiences with growing facial hair, it WILL be problematic and super sensitive for the first few months because the hairs will curl back and feel like needles on your face. If you're a younger guy then it's simply something you'll have to deal with for awhile. As you get older your face will grow less sensitive and you'll be able to grow a beard of whatever you want without much problem. Right now though it's super uncomfortable and a LOT of the bumps you'll get will originate from you rubbing your chin to soothe the irratation. So first step-ABSOLUTELY no hands on the face!! You may have to train yourself on this. Secondly, I shave everyday around my goatee and you'll find that the bumps will usually come right on the smile lines and under the chin. So I always make sure that no hair grows there. My face may now be accustomed enough to the hair to tolerate a more spread out beard.

As far as products here's what I use:

Gillete M3 Power. Gonna totally disagree with a previous poster. This is the best shave I've gotten in terms of preventing bumps and closeness. Ive tried electrics and leaving a little stubble, bumpstopper and all kinds of other crap and for me, the m3power seems keep me smooth and bump free.

I use Aveeno fragrance free theraputic shave cream after the shower and yes, I leave it on for a few seconds.

After the shave, I splash with cold water to close pores and then apply a tiny bit of neutragena oil-free moisterizer.

Another tip for any beard growth, I like to shampoo and ESPECIALLY condition it in the mornings and let it sit on the hair before shaving. Not only does it keep the hair clean, but it also softens the follicles (even the invisible ones) and helps the shaver lift the hair easier.

Been doing this for a few months now and am bump free :)

A few tips:

1. Shaving in or after your shower is a terrific idea.

2. Your skin may be too dry. Try applying a non-oily face moisturizer after you shave.

3. Leave shaving gel/foam/whatever on for at least 2 minutes. A study actually showed it takes about 2 minutes to do its thing (and that waiting longer than say, 3 minutes, was pointless).

4. Make sure your blades are sharp!
Duller blades mean more skin irritation and more passes with the razor. I change mine at least twice per week (about every four shaves). Yes, they're expensive (those bastards) but there is a big difference between sharp and dull blades.

5. You can leave your blade in isopropyl (aka "rubbing") alcohol when you're not shaving. Most corrosion to the blade will occur because of water that remains or condenses on the blade. I'm too lazy to do so now, but it can double the useful lifetime of the blade. Really.
