Wasn't 100% on where to post this, looks like Health and Fitness appeared to fit the bill most.

So I'm fed up of being pale. I have a very light complexion and don't tan easily at all and with summer approaching I thought I'd look into the confusing world of fake tans. What brand(s) would you reccomend to someone such as myself? Are there any particular side effects to fake tanning?

Thanks in advance
Adam

I don't think anything's wrong with it, just make sure you apply it evenly. Definitely a lot safer than the real thing.

I'm fair skinned too, and I recommend just getting in shape and being comfortable in your own skin. Don't worry about being tan. Leave that to the women.

Then laugh at their premature wrinkles in their 30s and 40s. Or at 27 or 28.

Summer's approaching eh? I thought it was already here ;)
I find just playing sports outside, or doing yardwork without my shirt works on getting rid of my farmer's tan in no time.

Well I'm here to tell you there is such a magic wand. Something that will make you almost completely irresistible to any woman you "point it" at. Something guaranteed to fill your life with love, romance, and excitement.

Yeah I was eating at friendlies (a restaurant those not familiar) with my coworkers when I noticed one of the female servers must have used some spray tan stuff too.. and it looked bad. She could have been the mascot for Florida oranges. :D

Not over here in sunny 'ole England

I do appreciate the fact that staining my skin a darker colour will not, in the long run, make me any more...self acceptant shall we say. As I say though, while I'm not albino, I do have light skin - I don't tan, I burn :)p). I'm not looking for anything drastic here, not by any means, just something to take away the edge of pastyness from my complexion (despite my current state of healthiness) simply for some short term confidence boost, I guess. It is undeniable a healthy looking tan is more attractive.

Anyone have any specific brands they could reccomend, as, unsurprisingly, I want to avoid streaky, orange 'tans' at all costs. I heard Nivea do some pretty good, 'mild' stuff - not sure if you have that over in the states?

Those spray-on tans can be spotted a mile away. It's summer, get out in the sun. Just make sure you throw on some SPF 8 so you get a safe, gradual tan instead of frying. Heck, even the electric beach in moderation is better than a "tan from a can".

Dude, I use L'Oreal Sublime Bronze every other day on my face, neck, and arms. Using it every other day gives me a light tan. I researched the active ingredient (all fake tanners use the same active ingredient) and it is FDA-ok'd... just keep it off your lips and eyelids. Much safer than a real tan or a tanning bed. In fact, according to the FDA, it is 100% safe.

Used in moderation, it looks natural and generally does not come off with sweat or water. If you use it too much (i.e., everyday) you will look too tan (do a google seach on Charlie Crist, governor of Florida to see what I mean) and the stuff will come off much more easily.

It works by dying your dead skins cells, and that is why you need to use it every other day to maintain it.
