Well I've had it!!!

I've had bad breath for as long as I remember, probably even when I didn't know I had it, and finally decided to do some research on it. Google is my best friend, so I pluggd it into google and strated checking out links. The fist thing I learned was that you must first go to a dentist for professional cleaning and see if you have gingivitis (very bad gum disease) If the dentist has cleared you of this, then the only other cause remaining is your tongue.

Then I found a site that explained that scraping your tongue hard is not the solution. This guy named Dr. Katz ha developed a system of mouthwashes, toothpastes, sprays and so on that completely eradicate bad breath. He has a ton of articles in his site that are very helpful. Go here: http://www.therabreath.com/articles.asp It turns out that tongue scraping isn't enough.

So I decided to give his products a try. The most basic of his products, like the mouthwash, the toothpaste and the spray can be found in almost any pharmacy. I found mine at Walgreens. I bought the mouthwash, used it and......

FINALLY!!!! No more bad breath!! It really worked!!

My dad even tried it after eating garlick and he can't eat garlick without using this anymore, or otherwise stinking up the house :D. It completely eradicates garlick and onion breath. Perfect to use after eating a hamburger. The nice thing is the spray he developed comes in a convenient bottle with a spray head to use whenever you need it.

Yes this may seem like a shameless plug but unlike yet another attraction system, which you can't try and see consistent results, this one you can try and see for yourself for as little as $5. You'll never have another mint again :D

I've had good results from tongue scraping followed by hydrogen peroxide mouthwash. Listerine/Scope/etc are crap, use the peroxide.

Above all ...

FLOSS!

Brushing, mouthwashes, and all of that will not get rid of the food that gets stuck between your teeth.

It's also good to brush your entire mouth.

Another thing that could belp is acidophilus and bifidobacteria supplements. Swallow some, and chew a few a couple times a day, preferably before meals. These are the good bacteria that should be in your mouth and your guts. Bad bacteria, parasites, and excessive fungal growth can cause really nasty breath. Often overuse of anitbiotics triggers these things.

I sent for that stuff a few years back. I believe it worked, but I didn't have a terrible case, so I didn't reorder. I didn't know they carried it at WalGreens.

You can also probably get a different kind at your dentist. I got some from my dentist once and liked it as well. But again I never reordered it.

Now, I recall that active ingedient in Therabreath is actually dilute bleach (Sodium Hypochlorite), correct me if I am wrong. They also add a few flavorings like mint or something.

I don't think that ClO2 is sodium hypochlorite, because they say that this is the main ingredient in TheraBreath. He even says it's safer than peroxide, because I used to wash my mouth with diluted peroxide before and I remember getting similar results although not in a consistent basis. I'll keep using it maybe until I get a pink tongue, if I ever will.

I was going off my memory of what was listed on the bottle, but that was a long time ago. So I'm probably wrong.

I just visited the therabreath web site. He claims to use chlorine dioxide (ClO2) but with weasal words. It looks like he actually uses Sodium Chlorite (NaClO2.) ClO2 is produced by the action of an acid on NaClO2, so he may rely on the acidty of the mouth to generate the ClO2.

I just found my old dentist supplied bottle of breath deodorizer. It is called RetarDex, by Rowpar Pharmaceuticals. Sort of an off putting name, ha. But anyhow, it lists ingredients as trisodium phosphate and stabilized chlorine dioxide.

So I guess if you wanted to make your own for a lot cheaper, find a source of sodium chlorite. You could probably make the stuff for pennies per gallon, since it is pretty dilute.

Note, sodium chlorite (NaClO2) is not to be confused with sodium chloride (NaCl) which is just table salt.
