*I want to get a couple things out of the way before I proceed. First and foremost, I'm not writing this in search of pity. I'm looking for advice from my peers, and people who have conquered life's little problems. Secondly, I realize my life isn't bad, however, I'm not 100% happy with it, and I'm slowly becoming more stressed out each day. I want to make and achieve goals, that will make me a happier person. Everything I talk about, and everything I share will be 100% fact.
I have a great social life. I've cemented very strong relationships with all of my friends, and am happy with my social life. However, my personal life, and financial stability is a train wreck.
Why does my personal life stress me out? A little bit about my situation...
I currently have $400 in my checking account, and $30 in cash. I'm -$912 in credit card debt, and have about $7000 withstanding in student loans. I have a $65/month cell phone bill, and my car insurance is $70/month. Factoring in a minimum payment on my credit card (worthless), I can tack on $50/month to my expenses. Rent is $515.
Current monthly expenses: $700 (not including $300/mo car payment as it's almost paid off)
I'm not worried about the student loans as they're a long term debt, and can be paid back later. I'm on the last month of my car payment ($300/month), and will be paying it off by middle September. The credit card debt, and lack of money is what's stressing me out.
My job situation is ok. It's not good because I'm paying $75/week for my car payment, in addition to 20% of each paycheck being taxed. On average I work 30-40 hours/week and I'm being paid $12/hr with no other forms of income. At 40 hours/week I can expect to take home ~ $320/week. Once my car payment is paid, I will have $300/month freed up. But right now I'm being raped.
I intend on working another job. I'm 100% certain it will involve me serving tables in a nice establishment. Depending on the shifts I get, I expect to make anywhere from $375-$500/week; this includes tips + hourly wage. If I can sustain this, and hold my full time job, I can expect to make roughly $3000/month.
As of September 1st I will be sharing an apartment with a very good friend of mine. (PhillipeUrielAmancio on sosuave.net) We will be paying $925/month for a two bedroom, one bathroom apartment in NE Minneapolis. All utilities are accounted for, with the exception of electric, internet, and cable/dish. We estimate that we will be paying $515/month after everything is accounted for, this doesn't include food, fun money, fuel, etc; purely apartment expenses.
In addition, I will be enrolling in a junior college come spring. When this happens I will have to drop my full time job, and work part time. I want this to go as smoothly as possible. In order for it to, I feel getting school paid for via student loans, as well as housing paid for via student loans would be the best way.
I want my student loans to cover my tuition, as well as my monthly rent. I want to pay my years rent up front, that way I won't have to worry about an extra $515/month. I will just pay that off when I'm done with school. I want to save that $515 for other things.
I'm considered a dependent student, how can I get financial aid to cover 100% of my tuition (72 credits @ $135/credit), as well as my yearly rent ($515*12=$6180)?
I'm aware of subsidized loans such as the Stafford. However I know they won't cover all of my tuition, and I will have to look at other loans i.e. Wells Fargo student loans.
At my current situation I can only save money if I eliminate my social life, and keep personal spending to gas for car, and food. No weekend fun, nothing. This is what's killing me. I just cannot seem to save anything. I never have more than $600 in the bank. It's horrible, and it's causing me to be cheap.
I'm willing to take a second job in order to put money away. I just feel like the world is crashing down, and that's the ONLY way I will be able to alleviate these pressures.
I'm just so sick of feeling minutely depressed, and very stressed. I'm having a hard time enjoying life at my current state.
I'm willing to listen to all advice, and appreciate all the words of wisdom.
