Dumped by a girl who SEEMED interested?

So here's the deal. I meet this girl on the bus (while sitting), get her number, etc. We end up going out. Went out, had fun, and even made some arrangements a few days later to get together again.

So, I call her up and leave a message to see what her schedule looks like. Then, I get a message from her claiming that her schedule is so tied up, that it just can't work out, blah, blah, blah. Obviously her previously high IL (or my false perception of it) had dwindled down fast.

I call her back and leave a message with a general "whatever" tone.

Anyway, I'm still confused why this girl suddenly turned on me when things seemed to be going good.

Any opinions? Thoughts?
