sup.. Just got a new set of dumbbells with the traditional threaded grip, and my hands are sore as f*ck, which is suprising as they are top quality set - or is this is common anyway?

Is it a matter of getting use to it and waiting for my soft hands to toughen up, or should i invest in a pair of gloves?

I've seen many guys recommend not using gloves (especially at my gym) and this doesn't makes sense to me.. because well, they work. That and I like my hands softer, not all rough and callused up. I prefer this for many reasons but for example, when I'm feeling/touching the lady folk I can actually feel/enjoy them and don't end up scraping them with hands like sand paper.

You all need to break out the chalk god damn it!!!

It ain't weightlifting without a ton of white powder everywhere!!! You should be leaving the gym covered in the stuff.

ive never personally used chalk. do you just dump it on your hands?
F*** yeh. That s*** should be in every crease there is. I can't imagine lifting without chalk anymore. I leave covered in the stuff. People probably think I do coke or something, I go into my bag before my big lifts and take a shot of ammonia and I'm covered in all this white s***. Not to mention the heavy rock I put on in the background. Heh :)

Deadlifts for the win!!!

I'd worry less about gloves and more about the view up your skirt doing SLDLs.
