Dumb complete newbie type question, but what would you do in this situation?

Ok so basically I'm a university student and over the past couple of days I've noticed that a girl always makes eye contact with me and holds it for a long time when I pass her in the hall. Today I was even standing still waiting for something and I turned my head to find her staring at me while she was walking out of the building, she then made and kept eye contact with me as she passed. Now the thing is I don't think I have any classes with her, and the only time I see her is when I am walking by her in one of the uni hallways. So basically how would you approach her if you were in this situation and what would you say. Basically I'd like to know how I can take this situation and use it to get to know her or whatever.

Go up to her, and say exactly this: "hey, how's it going?...I'm '...' " Shake her hand and start talking about some bullsh*t...class, major, where she lives, etc.

Close by saying "we should get together sometime. what's your number?"

What to say isn't the hard part. It's having the balls to say it.
