Hey everyone. I'm 21 but will be 22 in about 3 months. The only id i have had is my identification card the non driving one. I got it about 3 years ago when I was 19. It expires in 2010. The thing is it still says under 21 on it and I am almost 22 but i never bothered getting a new one.

I don't even have a drivers permit yet. All my friends tell me that is easy b/c all you have to do is study the quizzes and the permit is easy to get. The thing is i go to casinos in AC a lot but i never been asked for i.d. The thing is i find it embarrassing that my id says under 21 though my bday would show i am 21 and almost 22.

I do plan on learning to drive this summer. I think i paid like $15 or so for my id card when i was 19 in 2005. My question is will getting a permit be fine for an i.d whenever i go to a casino or a bar... i never went to a bar before so i am very behind in life. The thing is when i hear about a permit i always pitcher a 15-16 year old teenager carrying it so i think it would look foolish.

Whenever i buy alcohol, i show id but again its embarrassing b/c my id is the one that shows under 21 b/c it is 3 yrs old. Obviously getting a drivers license is the best thing since most people consider that as i.d. To those who learned to drive, how long did it take to get both your permit and drivers license

Or is it better just to shell $15 for a new id and also get a permit and then get a license. Thing is i dont wanna waste money if i am going to get a driving license anyway but I know i am the type of person that will take a long time learning how to drive.

Thanks everyone.

so you only carry a permit as your id right since you are only 19? Or do you have a identification card as well.

I know they keep changing the driving rules in Illinois, now I think they are on a graduated system where you need experience, but I think that's if you're under 21. Since you're over 21 you probably can just go in and ask to take a driver's test, but I'm not an expert so don't take my word for it. You should look up the rules for your specific state.

Either way, you should get a new ID. Some places won't let you in with an expired ID, and any place can refuse you service with one. People who use expired IDs are usually using their older brothers to buy liquor and get in bars, it's very suspicious because there's no reason to have one.

Driving is like anything else; everyone sucks at first, but gets better very quickly with practice. Get the permit and drive a lot with your friends and family who have a car, offer to chauffeur them around. You will get good at driving quickly if you do it a lot.

I just took all this drivers testing crap a month ago!!

When you hit 18 you can just study a driving hand book and go take the test...there is no permit required. A permit is for a driver between 15 1/2 and 17 1/2 wishing to get a drivers license. Its just part of the training process. Once you hit 18 they figure you dont need the training. But you could take driving school before you go get your license so you know what to do. Its like 300 dollars or sumthing like that. Only takes about a week.

If it really bothers you that much, Why don't you lose your ID and get a new one? The new one won't say Under 21.....Well atleast that's how it is in texas.

I've had my license for 3 years only carry it. Only had the permit when i was 15, but used it for identification and use my license for identification, clubs, bars, getting on planes etc.

LOL under your name it says your 23, you say your 21 and your ID says your under 21. How do you know you're not 19? :D

Get the drivers handbook and study it then take the test. Get your learners permit. No the learners permit does not qualify as an ID because they do not have a picture of you on it. Getting a new ID card is entirely up to you. If you are embarrassed that it says you will be 21 in 2007 then buy a new one.

Once you get your permit get someone to teach you the basics of driving then drive around as much as possible. When you feel comfortable and have researched the driving test and know what is on it, then take the test.
