I found that drinking coffee gives me a cheap boast before I go to the gym so I don't get tired while I workout. I wanted to know whether its ok to drink coffee for a boast and whether it has any drawbacks??

The caffiene is a plus, I know that. As for the other crap in coffee, I'm not exactly sure. I'd prefer to take a caffeine pill about an hour or so before my workout.

My nutritionist professor said theirs no such thing as a caffine crash like sugar. The caffine wears of very slowly. All the caffine does is free up fatty acids in the body so they can be used for energy.

You must no consume so much caffine that your body won't return to its normal mode. Some people drink a lot of caffine, but it doesn't wear off by the time they consume more caffine (the next day), so they keep adding more stimulants to their body, and too much will do bad things for the body. It we put a lot of stress on the central nervoius system.

How much is too much? I forgot exactly, I think over 2 cups but im not sure.

the other factor is that caffeine dehydrates, especially in the form of coffee, since it's so relatively concentrated. you'll have to make up for it by drinking even more water.

Is it the caffiene itself that dehydrates, or the stuff IN the coffee?

I remember reading something recently saying that many of the drinks that possess caffiene dehydrate you not due to the caff content, but rather the other ingredients...

hmm, I don't drink a lot of coffee, but i'm addicted to several diet sodas, all caffeinated and on the balance, they tend to dehydrate rather than hydrate.
