Just wondering if all states in the US have the same drinking age if 21, Im almost 20 and have been bartending since I was 18 in Australia. I will be in Canada/US soon just wondering if there is any places where the laws are different.

Cheers!

In Canada, BC is 19, Alberta, Manitoba, and I believe Saskatchewan are 18. The rest would be either 18 or 19. As far as I know everywhere in the United States is 21.

the wikipedia discussion of this is accurate though a bit confusing. the punchline? no where in the US can anyone under 21 legally purchase alcoholic beverages.

------

"Financial incentives create de facto federal purchase age of 21. The National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984 states that revenue will be withheld from states that allow the purchase of alcohol to anyone under the age of 21. Some states do not allow those under the legal drinking age to be present in liquor stores or in bars (usually, the difference between a bar and a restaurant is whether food is being served). Contrary to popular belief, since National Minimum Drinking Age Act of 1984, few states specifically prohibit minors' consumption of alcohol in private settings (an exception includes Connecticut). In some cases or states, alcohol permits can be purchased at a cost to the parent or legal guardian. As of 2006, 20 states do not specifically ban underage consumption and an additional 15 states have family member and/or location exceptions to their underage consumption laws.

Federal law explicitly provides for religious, medical, employment and private club possession exceptions; as of 2005, 31 states have family member and/or location exceptions to their underage possession laws.

Underage purchase of alcohol, though illegal in all fifty states, is not a federal offense... " (that is, the federal government does not enforce these laws, it is left to local & state authorities)

Okay, I was wrong...they raised it about 20 years ago. I could of sworn my older brother told me 19 and 20 year old WSU (right on the idaho border) students always cross the border to Idaho to get drunk. Maybe back in the day.

Men frequently err by talking too much. They often monopolize conversations, droning on and on about topics that bore women to tears. They think they're impressing the women when, in reality, they're depressing the women.

Yeah, I guess it depends where you go. It seems like cashiers and bartenders/bouncers are ID nazis here in the CO. I get carded for smokes everywhere I go. In fact, they almost confiscated my ID at 7-11 buying some lame 3.2% the other Sunday because they thought it was fake. The chick had to ask the guy in line behind me if they thought it was my picture on the ID.

I get carded at the liquor store around the corner EVERY time I go by the SAME damn asian guy that owns it. I'm like "Don't you remember me by now?" "No I have to checka ID suh" :cuss:

Hey, no sh1t. I live in Miami, and here nobody gives a fvck. You're 16, you go to a gas station and they dont' give a fvck. It's like they don't give a fvck.

Now I'm 26, I go to Publix and they ask me for ID, but gas station, forget it.

actual enforcement in the US varies widely, very widely, and depends on a bunch of circumstances that can basically be boiled down to (1) what extra money will the seller keep for themselves? and (2) what type of risks do they face for selling underage?

some hourly wage clerks, waitresses & bartenders are beer-nazis because they have nothing to gain and fear punishment (much to lose), either from the law or their boss.

others are lax as hell because their tip depends on selling as much as possible or get off on helping kids break the law, and they do not sufficiently fear punishment (little or nothing to lose).

proprietors who will simply keep the extra cash must weigh that directly against any punishments risked by getting caught.

before 1984, laws varied widely across the various states.

That's totally true, the reason why so many teenagers want to drink alcohol is because it's ILLEGAL and they feel badass doing it. Another thing that's total BS is WHY IS WEED ILLEGAL? It's impossible to overdose on weed since you passout before you go overboard. You can even drive safer when you're high because you concentrate more and you ur vision isn't f*cked up. Weed also DO NOT HAVE TAR in it, which is WHAT CAUSES CANCER in cigs. US has so many BS laws, they won't change it because it's "TRADITION" and old ppl want to ruin everyone's lives cuz they're fat. lol
