Hey there.

I've been wondering for a while, what's your honest impression of people with dreadlocks. I myself have wondered for a while about getting them, but have always stopped short coz it's such a big commitment to make.

The reasons I've thought about it is probably coz my hair is so uncontrollable and grows so fast. Dreads seem pretty ideal after all the troubles I've had. Plus I've always had a bit of an individual streak, and they look cool too :)

I'm a New Zealander (full Maori) and also a Uni student, so they'd probably look about right, somehow I don't always think it's the right look for people with light skin really. But then again, I've always gone for a more clean cut look then you see on most people sporting dreads, so I dunno if it could work. And also, a main reason is I'd fear giving off an impression I really don't have any intention of giving off, depending on people's preconceptions. I could deal with it, but it would be a bit of a shame getting judged harshly before people even know me if that's what really happens.

So do you guys find that is the case? Do you all have negative preconceptions, or don't really care much at all? Any opinions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

honestly, i think its the bastardisation of the rastafarian religion and people who get them whom aren't rasta are just trend *****s and need to be shot on site, but thats just my opinion.

the impressions that you give to older person will be "jake the muss, come to rape the kids, sell the drugs, and beat up the wife" but for the younger person it'd be "omg that guy is hawt/kewl"

i say nay, (but you'd probably suit them;))

haha

lol. As if a single religion (that is what I'm assuming, can't say I've researched the history of dreadlocks) has exclusive rights to something as insignificant as a hairstyle. That's just ridiculous...

Thanks for your reply, but I'd have preferred something slightly less tongue-in-cheek really. Try and be a lil more helpful next time, or don't bother replying.
