I saw this on my favorite show and wondered if this could actually work. Obviously this guy is skinny but he's still jacked too. Would this really happen if your diet consisted of protein shake, salad, water and fruit and you lifted everyday?

Warning: The video is kinda gay, so if your homophobic don't watch.

Whether it would work or not i may try it after Christmas just because i like extreme lifestyle experiments and i need to lose some weight.

I would defiantly add protein bars between meals and vitamins + tons of water and juice.

VERY bad idea. Natural food and protein has evolved for millions of years into being near perfect nutrition for our bodies.

Eating only protein shakes is a great way to jack up cholesterol, create vitamin and mineral deficiencies and not to mention clear a stadium with your gas.

Not to mention that mixed protein sources create a more complete Amino Acid profile and regular food is just better.

Okay, vitamin and mineral deficiencies and gas I'll grant you but how are protein powders not a complete protein and how do they increase cholesterol?

OK so by adding multi-vitamin, more salad / fruits and water would make the diet perfect right? Gas problem... will exist anyways if you drink protein shakes or on a high protein diet.

Terrible diet. I would add at least 2 minimum real food meals/day. Remember, HEALTH IS A LIFESTYLE, not a DIET.

Look - if you live off protein shakes, vegetables and vitamins you won't end up looking like him (if that's even what he does).

You will end up looking like something out of Auschwitz.

But feel free to try it if you want.

And for the record - I never have gas on a high protein diet. And unless you're still transitioning on to it, or are using a new brand of protein, you shouldn't either.

Protein (Whey, casein, egg and soy) are all manufactured or extracted. Animal protein is normally much more complete.

I'm also speaking in longer term and complete replacement of protein with powder.

And the cholesterol increase can be staggering if not properly monitored.

Take Cytosports' Cytogainer, http://www.cytosport.com/media/ProductSupplementalFactsImage/supp_cytogainer_van.jpg.

Great product, but not for very long term use.

And a word on Multi-vitamins, research is beginning to show that these can feed certain types of cancer and don't really do much because of the solubility of most vitamins; Your body is only going to take what it needs then store or urinate the rest out, so EAT REAL FOOD.

cytogainer is not a whey protein powder.

dietary cholesterol and saturated fat do not lead to high blood serum cholesterol levels.

whey, casein and egg are complete in the sense that they contain all essential amino acids. that's not my usage, it's standard usage.

OTOH, trying to live off protein powder is almost as dumb as trying to live off slimfast shakes.....

Whey, casein, egg and soy proteins are complete as far as amino acid structure is concerned. That animal protein is more anabolic and better for you overall I agree but powders are still complete proteins.

As for cholesterol it will be minimally affected by your choice of protein powder.

Btw cytogainer is a weight gainer, not a protein powder and you should not use the two interchangeably.

Thanks for answering my post Warboss, I was just wondering if the diet would actually work or not. lol So any suggestions in cutting body fat while putting on lean muscle? I'm sick of hovering around the 12-15% body fat level. What kind of cardio do you recommend on the off days?

this topic's been done to death, just search the forums enough and you'll find it.

btw if you wanna look like that guy and don't have a particularly fast metabolism be prepared to do a lot of cardio.

protein powers and weight gainers are totally different products with different applications, and you should not one where you would use the other and vice versa, in this case the poster was using a weight gainer as an example of a protein powder. it is not the same thing.
