. I’m a fairly healthy 28-year-old guy. 5’9, 190lbs. I went to the doc because my hips were killing me. I got the cool friggen laser x-ray tube thing done and it turns out that I have a disc that is pushing out against some nerve cords which causes my lower hips to ache when I sit.

So, I ask what I can do. The Doc says “Sorry. This just happened to hit you early. Some weight loss will help along with getting Cortisone shots in your spine *shiver*

So I get the shot. No more pain when I sit. But I have a real problem. I can’t run anymore. Doc says no more lifting, no running, no shocks to your spine, no stress. No more weight training. To make matters worse, no pool in town. CRAP!

Now, I’m carrying about 15lbs too much. I’d really like to loose it and I was working on that this summer. Now though, I’m worried about getting fat.

So, I’ve started doing extensive Tai Chi in the morning, around an hour a day. I’m sweaty and pleasantly shaky by the end of it. I’m also walking to work now instead of driving. I live in a town of 2,500 so it is no big deal.

My question is to you pro’s of working out, am I doing enough physical activity to start loosing weight?

My caloric intake averages around 3,000 calories a day.

I'd like to do this weight loss correctly, but with these restrictions my doc has placed on me, I'm not sure how to go about it.

Monitor your weight loss with your current activity - if you're not losing weight, then add some more walking (i.e. in the evening, or in the morning before work), etc.

Watch what you eat; eat clean sources and don't mix too much fat and carbs.
