Back in your school years (some of us are there right now) we often had to study stuff that we had once learned in class for a big test. often, we remembered most of the shyt, but we always managed to forget several important things that turned out to be on the test.

Remember when you didn't study something and it was on the test? That mental blank is pretty damn unpleasant, isn't it? If only uou had studied for it, you might have remembered it.

It was true in school, it's also true in DJ-ing.

"But Page, I'm a made man now. I know all the DJ doctrine."

Do You? Do you really? If I were to give you a situation test right now, would you put down the DJ answer and score a 100%, or would you have a few mental blanks about a few techniques?

Chances are, you have forgotten stuf fthat you've learned once before. Just like random questions on a test, life is ful lof random situations that actively seem to try to catch you off guard. Also, humans are forgetful. As you learn stuff, your brain fills up, and some of the basic stuff gets "pushed out' to make room for the new. Often, you forget some of the most basic, yet critical, stuff. This lack of knowledge manifests itself in times where you are thrust into the very situation that you are unprepared for. Chances are, you screw up because you forgot the DJ way to handle the situation. Remember, we have been brainwashed to be an AFC for most of our lives. Often, that AFC conditioning comes in to subtly replace the DJ techniques that you have forgotten. You have to study the DJ materials faithfully so you will keep your facts straight.

So gentlemen, here's what you have to give yourself every so often: A refresher course.

"But Page, I've already learned that stuff."

Sure, but did you remember it?

Reread the DJ Bible very often. Go down the table of contents and try to remember how to solve each and every situation described therein. Try to recall the essense of what each article said. If you can't, put that on your refresher list. the ones that you couldn't answer are the ones that you need to review.

I generally give myself a monthly refresher course, and as time goes on, I find that I remember more and more every time. If you want to do well on any kind of test (And life is a sort of test) You have to study for it.

Your textbook is this site. It will always be here for us to come back and study, so you have no excuse not to crack the books on a regular basis.

Homework: Click the nearest DJ Bible Link and check out the rest of the site, too.

That is a good tip for those who think they are now the man just beacause they have read everything. I am not at that point yet because i am still a DJ in the making so I'm still focusing on improveing and not reviewing yet...
