Doing deadlifts - should there be any pain/stress in the lower back?

I'm trying to start deadlifting, and I'm looking at all sorts of articles and threads here on how to do deadlifting properly, and I still can't tell if I'm doing it right. I read that you're not supposed to feel any pain in your lower back, but I can't do it without feeling it a little bit there. How much are you supposed to feel in your lower back while/after doing a deadlift?

Also, when you're fully extended during the deadlift, are your knees supposed to be straight and locked or bent?

Another thing, about your back- is it basically supposed to be slightly arched throughout the whole motion?
