I see nothing wrong in going after a girl who is in a LDR. Heck I'm trying to do it now. The problem is that she isn't single nor is she really taken. I can tell that she likes me a little bit and that will go up if I start spending time with her outside of school.
Unfortunately I know very little about girls and I can't really figure out how to get closer to her. If she was single it would be easier but I'll keep going till some things come to me.

I used to have a pen pal, back when I was Ralph's age. Girls are funny creatures though. They can get their emotional needs fulfilled through a pen pal. As for the guy, I can't imagine why a guy would do that to himself. I wouldn't be surprised if she found out that he was cheating on her.

As much as I like this site, seeking approval here isn't the way to go about living your own life.
Personally I don't like LDRs (having FBs in another town is something else though). Most of my breakups have been due to the relationship becoming a LDR because of circumstances.

I answered the topic creators question from the perspective that the topic creator wants to get a girl that is in a LDR and wonders if the site frowns on that.
The site doesn't frown on that because...
1. The guy is being the man he wants to be in going after this chick. (which keeps in line with what you said)
And
2. The chick is stuck in an imaginary fantasy land relationship which is completely retarded for anyone to engage in. I have repeatedly seen tons of posters here ie the people that make up the site endorse going after a chick that is in one of these as being an ok thing to do which also influenced my answer as being something "the site endorses".
You could just as easily say you and some other members here don't endorse doing this and you would also be correct to say that the site doesn't endorse this based on your view and the members who agree with your point of view.
Bottom line is there are many different takes and competing viewpoints this site endorses and anyone would be correct in saying that the site endorses any one of those points when a person asks if it endorses this, that or the other thing.
