Dorian Yates started out with 5x5 and similar routines. You have to remember that Mentzer and his brother (who trained with him) both died in their 40's due to heart problems probably aggravated by a heavy use of anabolics.
Intensity is very important when it comes to lifting but it's not the only factor. Slow lifting is ineffective, it doesn't actually work the muscles in the way people claim.
sorry but you lack experience, regardless of what you have read or what your age is. you havent been doing this for enough time to really experiment with different strategies and routines over the years. there are tons of different ways to workout and many of them work well, and you can mix different philosophies and techniques from different sources to make your own workouts. mike mentzers information has its place and has worked well for many people for many years. all of a sudden its all invalid cause someone with 3 years of experience said so?DanZy said:I've been lifting for 3 years and read a **** ton of stuff the likes of Martin Berkhan, Lyle McDonald, Brad Pilon, Alan Aragon and Layne Norton. Age has nothing to do with it
You haven't understood my point at all. Intensity is a highly important component of hypertrophy and Mentzer is correct in that thus this knowledge should be incorporated into your workouts, however the rest of it isn't. I'm all for mixing the best together to get the best results. It's not all invalid, though much of it was proven to be years ago, the focus on intensity is good.foreverAFC said:sorry but you lack experience, regardless of what you have read or what your age is. you havent been doing this for enough time to really experiment with different strategies and routines over the years. there are tons of different ways to workout and many of them work well, and you can mix different philosophies and techniques from different sources to make your own workouts. mike mentzers information has its place and has worked well for many people for many years. all of a sudden its all invalid cause someone with 3 years of experience said so?
