I was reading this, and it got me interested:
Women get higher tips than men, and younger women get the highest tips. (Men tipping younger women accounts for most of the difference between male and female tips.)

Yes, I'm guilty of this. Even though I'm generous with all wait staff, the pretty ones get a little extra if they have a nice smile and a thick booty......

Nope I do it out of sympathy, I often leave higher tips to old dumb taxi drivers in eastern europe cause their ignorance and happiness amazes me, there could be a war in the middle east but its no big deal to them cause that week they saved on fuel.

Young goodlooking girls are not that common in western europe as waitresses, guess they dont bother to such "lame" jobs and leave them to fat ones or older ones.

Even expensive places usually have men to serve while in eastern europe is generally younger people and girls are often pretty still dont get more then the guys from me.

If you feel good and the yonge hot waitress flirtatous then tipping nicely is usually in order. You are paying for how she is making you feel at the moment rather than the service. If you get a hot girl with an attitude or is nice to other guys but ignoring you then of course no tips. She is lucky a nasty review of the place with a one star rating is not left as a negative tip.

Exactly. One gave me an eyeroll before taking my order. She got a $0.40 tip on a $25 dinner.

Depends. If I frequent the place I tip better, hot or not. There’s a diner I eat breakfast at regularly and there’s a girl in her 20’s that always waits on me. She’s cute but married, she still flirts though even though I don’t flirt with her.lol I tip her $10 every time. She takes care of me though, I’ll give her that. I usually don’t always tip if I don’t go in the place often. I hate tipping.

I used to be a waiter and a bartender so I know the work these people put in and how low the hourly pay is so I am a very good tipper. Having said that I tip the same regardless of whether it is a man or a women, young or old, good looking or not. The only thing that lowers my tips is bad attitude and rudeness. If you are friendly and put some effort even if things don't go according to plan I will take care of you. If you want to disrespect me or be an all around assshole I will nail you harder then ever. Because I do this I am usually treated like a high priority customer when I dine at restaurants that I have dined at before.

When you get to be my age it’s very simple to discern if a woman is genuine or if she is playing you for a tip. If I see that she is respectful and genuine, I will tip more, but that goes for men, too. If she drips sexuality but I judge her to be fake, I will tip much less.

I always tip at 15%... I'll go to 20% if service is exceptional... It doesn't matter who they are or what they look like. If service is terrible, it's usually not the wait staff's fault... it's typically the manager... I always speak to the manager, if he/she is an @ss... I'll talk to the owner and warn them if the manager isn't removed his/her business will fail.

In my experience, when you have a terrible waiter, they are usually untrained and shouldn't be on the floor working alone yet... they are OJT, or there are not enough waiters for the customer workload... or you have kitchen staff that don't know what the fvck they are doing.

In almost EVERY case I've observed over the years... when I get bad service and/or bad food... the manager is sitting in their office doing nothing. If you have a bad waiter... it is the fault of the manager for not getting rid of them.

Exactly this. Only I worked back of house, my brother did too; but then cut his teeth becoming manager. That's the industry he first learned supervision.
He always encouraged me to practice leadership in hospitality, but I can only manage one or two at a time....and that style doesn't work anywhere in leadership.
My tips as a diner start at 30% and I've gone as high as 75%, if the atmosphere is friendly, relaxed and nonrushed and dining area is impeccably clean. The waitstaff would have to actually be mean for me not to tip them. I know about pressures working in hospitality. Its an incredible high adrenaline dance back there beyond the kitchen doors at the height of service time.
Edited to add: All levels of attractiveness, all genders, get the same tips from me.

I generally tip 16%. More or less depending on the service, but usually not more than 20%.

Nope, my money is MINE. I won't give it away for a woman who looks good

Rather tip helpful waiters. Or kind people.

Pay your wait staff a living wage and ban tips.

How is it fair when the cooks are slaving away and getting no tips, whilst the wait staff get tips for taking orders and bringing food? And occasionally providing service?

Worked on and off in kitchens for about 7 years. Wait staff would consistently make more than us due to tips. Meanwhile we would show up earlier to prep, create specials, clean the place, and basically run the place. We were also instructing the waitstaff on what to do / what we were serving. All they had to do is show up and take orders.

A common theme that I find is that customer facing roles often earn more money. In a way being a server is kind of like a sales position. In that regard you can think of the tip as a type of commission.

I tip the same regardless of looks or if it is a man or woman. If the girl is attractive, I'll probably feel a little more enthusiastic about it though. To be honest, I don't even really like being served by a male.

Makes you wonder though: Is tipping a girl who flirts with you rewarding her for good behavior? Since the behavior is likely not sincere, probably not.

Our service in European establishments is perfectly fine without anybody tipping anyone.

I tip waitstaff by how they do their job.
If they try to charm me, but suck at their job, I tip accordingly.
If they are ugly as F@ck but do a great job, I tip accordingly.
Tipping well to someone you like, when they su<k @ their job (they generally know if they do...) is Beta and they know it. You'll lose their respect immediately.
