Do you have a GF?

What is it with that question? At least 5 times a week somebody will ask me it. What is the universal obsession with knowing if somebody else has a GF? It always comes in the same order to:

Person: Do you have a GF?
Me: No
Person: Why?

OR

Person: Do you have a GF?
Me: No
Person: Well I'm sure you will meet someone (in a non sarcastic tone)

I mean why should I have a GF? I don't want to be tied down in a relationship but it seems like society is pushing me and all us single guys into settling down.

Fact is I LOVE being single I get as much sex as I want and I never really enjoyed the whole monogamy thing.

Anyway my question is:

Why do you guys think people ask this question?

Why do you think they are surprised when i say "no and I'm happy being single"?

What is it with this delusion people have that having a serious GF at such a young age is a good idea?

Couple of reasons... I get this all the time also... but never really think too much of it... hint hint.

1. This might be from people in your social circle who are currently 'tied down.' Look around. If you hang around with a lot of couples, invariably they're going to want you to fit into the same 'dynamic' as they do. This makes them more apt to accepting you and relating to you on that same level. Guys might ask it because if you're REALLY attractive, at least it'll put their minor insecurities at ease, especially if the trust level isn't at it's greatest, or if you already carry the essence of a DJ. ;)

2. The question has become conversational norm in some respects... I'm not surprised if this particular question will exceed 'How's the weather?' in it's blatant overusage.

3. These are chicks asking you. In which case, SMILE and take in the compliment.

4. They're surprised because NOT MANY people (men OR women) are ''happy being single." So much for fairy tales, eh? Anyways, this connotates that you're now very unique for being as such, and now, ironically, ONLY EXPECT THEM TO ASK MORE. ..... the catch!

5. You answered your own question. People ARE deluded with serious girlfriends.

Note: On a very real scale, majority of people who ask questions like these truly have mediocre thinking... given, some others might just say it as a casual conversational piece, or to gain a bit more information... but a lot of times, you're going to have to be careful the advice people give you, or the wishes they might wish upon you, ESPECIALLY if they're not operating at the social scale that you wish yourself to be on.

Hahaha when a girl asks……. I know why

What I'm asking about is when a guy asks, somebody I just met or somebody I know and I haven't seen in a while.

They act like if you don’t have a GF you are uncool and you are not getting any sex. They often say “if you don’t have a GF what do you do about sex?”

What i have noticed is that guys without gf's will ask this and hope that you will say that you dont have a gf so that THEY will feel better about themselves not having a gf. sad hey? Oh well.

But do you find it's a necessity to have a GF instead of multiple fu*kbuddies in modern day life?

Yeh I see your point anyway but the people who ask me are pretty mixed some are in relationships and others aren’t.

I just find it strange that people think you have to be in a realationship.

People LOOOOVE comparing. And again, if they have a gf and you dont, it makes them feel "better"... as if they are "better" than you in a sence... Its like them saying indirectly "Hey look at me, I'm so kewl, I have a gf, i get sex whenever i want it, woohooo, everyone look at me, I have a gf, I'm so leet!" ... Sad but true:D

And some people think thats its only normal to have a gf, and if you DONT have a gf then something is not right... and some people will think that having a gf is the worst thing ever.... Each to his own.;)

How to handle the question...

Your right......... still the next guy who asks me that is going down.
hehe... hmm....

Other guy: So do you have a gf?

Me: erm... Does it matter?

Other guy: Not really, just curious:)

If I have a gf: - Me: Yeah I do

Other guy: Oh ok, kewl.. going good?

Me: As always:cool:

If I dont have a gf:- Me: Nope I dont, I prefer the single life.. Dont feel like being stuck with one girl... yet... I'm still young and there are MANY other beautiful ladies out there waiting for me to find them;) *grin*

That will turn the tables... Will make HIM envy YOU, instead of the other way around.

You win, game over.

Here's something you can say:

Him: Do you have a girlfriend?
You: No
Him: What do you do about sex?
You: I do one night stands. With multiple girls.

That should shut him up.

An acquaintance asked me a few days ago how my love life was going, and I answered "I have no time". Which is right.
