I used to have a house that i hated, and it sure wasn't helping me bag women. I'm finally out of it, and into an apartment. I ditched lots of my non-matching, old, dumb looking towels, plates, silverware, etc. I want to start from scratch. I want things to match, and i want the women to - if not say it outloud - think, "Wow, this dude has a great place, and great taste!"

Like i said, i'm going to Bed Bath and Beyond to get new plates, silverware, towels, sheets, comforter, pillowcases, etc. I'm trying to think of other things that look classy. Since i need lots of things, i can get matching things, like chrome or polished silver things like paper towel holder, toilet scrubber, soap dispenser, salt and pepper shakers, coasters, etc. I bought some candles and these cool candle holders to put out through the house. Women LOVE the candles, and most dudes don't have them.

I tried to find the thread that talked about essentials in a classy bachelor pad, but couldn't.

Do you guys have any good ideas?

Yes, nothing is nicer than a matching toilet scrubber and salt/pepper shakers... yummy!

Modern. Go Modern.

Personally, I like the brushed aluminum, hardwood floors, floating glass eating bar, industrial modern look. Euro-asian.

Ikea has tons of ideas. I don't know if they have one in the PDX, but, there's one here in Seattle (Renton Actually, 20 min South of Downtown Seattle) that has a huge showroom of modern layouts and decorating ideas.

Another thing I did before furnishing the condo was to look at new condos in your area, and see how their interior designers are furnishing their spaces. It is great inspiration.

Check out these two sites:
www.thevinebuilding.com
www.belloracondos.com

These are two "high-end" highrise condos in downtown Seattle. The showroom gallery link has tons of great ideas for a sharp pad.

Plants are a must! A nice tree plant is ideal with a few potted plants placed strategically around the living room. It will give your living rooom life.

A book shelf with a nice selection of books that demonstrate your personality and intelligence.

Good lighting. Track lighting with dimmers are good for adding variable moods.

A fish aquarium to add even more life to your pad and to show that you can take care of something besides yourself. Try Twenty gallons with nice plastic plants. colorful gravel, and very colorful fish. The freaks love to watch them.

Big fluffy throw pillows for when things get freaky in the living room and to add that feeling of comfort to your living room.

A nice corner wine rack with a few bottles of a wine and a bottle or two of champagne.

A nice entertainment system with dvds, a wide selection of music, nice stereo system with surround sound, and video games with party games.

A computer desk with side cabinet.

Nice dining room table with table cloths and candles.

Magazines for the coffee table. Nice magazines with photos and some to show that are sexual in some way.

A nice sexy painting. Something in the living room that says, "hey, I actually live here and it is not a museum" ( I have a very nice weight set that says this and it complements the living room).

Nice rugs for the bathroom with nice shower curtains (pick shower curtains that will let her know that she will be staying the night). A nice vase for the bathroom. Nice waste basket, toothbrush holder (with extra toothbrushes), and dixie cups to match the waste basket and shower curtains and vase.

Don't slack in the bedroom. Get a nice bedroom set with nice dressers and bed posts. Nice fluffy comforters with several fluffy billows. Maybe a nice rug that serves as a red carpet to your bed.

If you have carpet, make sure it is plush and don't have anyone, not even your own mother, walk on the carpet with shoes. You want to keep it clean.

Throw a few things around to show that you are not too uptight about the setup.

I have a good start, but my place still needs a little work. Gonna bring some kick ass oil paintings back from Europe next time I'm there. Also need a few details (candles and sh!t). I'm gonna get a female fiend to help me out with that. The chickies dig the suedeish couch...that was a wise purchase. I make sure I have a good variety of booze laying around for my nearly famous Saturday night after-parties :)

Right now I live a short walk from the club district, and I just bought a high rise condo that will be built in the next couple of years that is directly in the middle of the action. There are supposed to be South Beach style clubs right in my building...gotta love it. THAT'S gonna be the bachelor pad, should I be able to hold onto my single status that long.

I think this is the article you're looking for:

http://www.sosuave.com/articles/bachelor.htm

Frosty had some great ideas there, too.

I'm looking to get my own apartment soon, so I'm keeping my eye out for this kind of info for when I make the move. I'm roommates with my brother now, but I need more space and the apartment is a little too geeked out for me.

God**mit, that is a great article! Looks like i need to buy more things for my pad.

I was laughing when he talked about the toilet paper part, cause it reminded me that i use the cheapest, worst, rough toilet paper ever. I now cringe at the thought of some of these hotties wiping with my terrible toilet paper, thinking i'm some cheap bastard.

If you're looking for modern furniture/decoration, the ONLY place to go is IKEA (www.IKEA.com).

Frosty has excellent bachelor pad advice, especially about bathrooms, and the article is gold. Here are some more tips that I have found in my own experience:

Make sure you have a small selection of coffee and tea around along with the usual wine, beer, juice, vodka, cold water, etc. Maybe some camomille tea bags and some instant coffee or something. I don't drink any tea or coffee, however I have not met a woman who doesn't. I have been empty-handed when a woman has asked me for a cup of tea. She said, "Didn't your mother give you advice setting up your place?" Oooooh, minus three points.

If you own your place, be creative but tasteful with wall colors. I hate wallpaper, and I hate white. I repainted all my walls with carefully chosen colors that use each other to create a warm effect. Always gets compliments and makes guests feel at home and relaxed. I'm a bit artsy and I go for all the color theory and psychology stuff.

Yes, plants! I don't have plants. Every girl comments on the lack of plants. Not negatively, thank goodness, but it's not helping me. Don't be lazy like me, find something that works. Hanging plants might be best. Might stop by the greenhouse this afternoon.

Make your living area "about something." I've gone vintage Danish modern because I love the look and I like natural wood. The style creates a retro look that I complete with some vintage 1950s/1960s items including a black rotary telephone, vintage hi-fi, shelf electric fan that you can stick your fingers into, lava lamp, etc. It gets comments too, usually favorable. If you pick a theme, don't be afraid to go all the way with it, as long as it's comfortable to live in every day.

Wallhangings are important. I don't have enough. I'm painting something new to hang on my wall that matches the furniture. If you can paint, you already know that gets you in. Learn the hobby, or go to antique stores or art galleries and get something unique, or hell, go to the mall and get something to hang up.

I don't think you should go crazy with neatness. Because I dress well and keep an immaculate car, my girl was worried I was a neat freak until she saw how lived-in my place looks. My office is a sty. She appeared relieved and doesn't call me a neat freak anymore.

Modern, traditional, avant guarde, it really doesn't matter what you have as long as the bathroom and the kitchen are CLEAN, and you feel comfortable in it. You house is really an extension of who you are, and basically if a chick doesn't like you because of your house, fukk her.

Ok, there are ome exceptions to the rule. Try to avoid "redneck trailer park motif" or "porn star pad motif", unless you happen to live in a redneck trailer park, or you are a porn star.

Everybody's different, but here's how I did my own rockin' bachelor pad. The first floor is more traditional, homely, settled. There are the standard prints on the wall, but I also have a lot of framed pictures of my family and me on the walls from when we were kids. I have the candles, teas, coffees, etc. I have a sizable aquarium, bookshelves, etc... My upstairs is also traditional, and anything that is on the wall is framed.

My basement, however, is more of a rec room. It has posters on the wall, I've got the 36" TV, DVD player, CD player, VCR, stereo, throw pillows, minifridge, etc. It's meant to be in stark contrast to the rest of the house, so I don't seem too stuffy.

Basically my bachelor pad is an extension of myself, showing both my conservative side and my fun side.

It's nice to have a new home that your proud of. It will boost your confidence in your self which is the real key. It's not your home that will hold you back....it's your attitude.

I know women do appreciate a well kept home as well as the next player....but it's the game you spit that really counts.

Good luck on your decorations and interior design process. Oh women have already decided if they are going to sleep with you way before they've entered your home...unless you are a total slob when they get in...it's mostly a done deal.

Don't be an AFC, she's going to think you're with someone or gay. How would you like to go to a chicks place that was all messy, nothing matched, etc... It's the same for women, they don't want to go to a place that looks as if there's another woman living there. You don't have to be maticulous, or make sure everything matches. As long as you keep your place semi-clean she'll be happy. It'll also make her think about how she'll be changing the place when she moves in. Not like she's moving in or anything, but you want to keep her thinkin'.

And, my god, if nothing else, make sure your bathroom is clean, there's nothing women hate more then an unsanitary bathroom. If you think she's not looking over your bathroom when she's in it, you're sadly mistaken. This is the one place in your house that she can snoop around without the chance of being caught. She's probably going through your medicine cabinet too, so make sure that's in order. Personally I spend as much time on my bathroom when I clean as I do on the rest of my house.

1) Clean in, on, around, and under the toilet
2) Make sure the shower is spotless.
3) Clean the sink after every use
4) Make sure you always have hand soap avaliable.
5) Always have clean towels that she can wipe her hands on.
6) Make sure the mirror has no spots
7) Don't leave toiletries laying around (Razor on sink, toothbrush out of place).
8) Make certain the toilet paper is on the roll and full!
9) Make sure the floor is clean including the corners and behind the toilet.

Some other things I do.

1) Always have clean bed sheets with at least 300 threadcount.
2) Have a place for dirty clothing other then on your bedroom floor.
3) Have at least one pair of good clean crystal wine glasses.
4) Have at least 3 or 4 bottles of different wine and a champagne on hand at all times.
5) Have something on your wall besides a Kiss, Detroit Rock City, or Beer posters. In other words, spend some money on some art.
6) Have framed pictures of someone other then your mother.
7) VACUUM!!!!! At least make sure you vaccuum before there's a chance that a woman may come over.
8) Dust more then once a year.
9) Have a place other then plane view for those porn mags and videos.
10) For christ sake, take out your garbage more then once a month.
11) Have at least two non-alcoholic drinks avaliable.
12) If you have pets, make sure they are kept clean. Clean your fish tanks once every 2 weeks, change your cat litter, clean up the dog hair.

Remember, she knows your a man and most likely a batchlor if you're bringing her home. She's not expecting to find potpouri and candles everywhere. But she's also not expecting to vomit in disgust when she walks into your place.

I have this buddy whose place is a sty, we don't even like going over there. I can remember him telling me this story about taking a chick home. He told me the moment she walked in she said, "Oh hell no!" and left. You'd think he'd have learned...

Hopefully, you will have all of this established way before the broad even shows up at your pad.

You don't have to have roses and stuffed animals spread out everywhere but don't underestimate the power of some nice plants, a great smelling house, and some nice candlelight to set the mood.

Messy is bad no matter who you are. Clean and decked-out is always good no matter who you are.

I simply like my place clean and stylish.
When you come visit, I am hoping that you have the feeling of hating to leave because it is so comfortable and accommodating.

The sosuave.com article is really the gist of what you need.

I finally have gotten all the furniture to match. Kitchen needs updating and I want to put in hard wood floors. Floors last. You don't want to screw them up with other construction. (I've got a condominium).

Look at some movies or TV. Check out "Frazier's" apartment or Mel Gison's in "What Women Want". I know, you'd have to be rich to afford thier places. But, just take that look and run with it...

I dig working on my place. I've got a project every week-end...

For myself, if a guy's place is fairly clean, the rest is unimportant.

One extra thing though- Make sure your sheets and pillows are fresher than a 16 year old boy at a naked school girl contest.

Clean sheets = Mucho bang-age.

A plant or nice furniture is a bonus, but 'cmon, I'm dating a guy for HIM, not his hassock.

A nice place is for me since I like having nice things. Banging some females in it is a bonus. I keep that in mind when I lay the place out since it is part of my lifestyle.

After a long and hard day of work, I like to come home to a place that invites me to sink in and relax anywhere.

Your home is your sanctuary. Your headquarters. Your retreat. Your vacation spot when you are not on vacation. For me, it has to be more than a simple place to lay my head at night. If you have the cash to build a castle, why not go for it? There are not too many better ways to spend your money. If you own your place, there probably isn't too many at all.

Well, lets face it, with some women all you will need is a beaten up chevy but I believe most women will appreciate any nice pad whether it is a guy's or girl's so it can only help you in the women department.
