As someone who is 1/2 Italian American and DOES believe alot of Italian-Americans are loud, over-emotional and hot-tempered; I have come to realize alot non-mafia related movies pick up on this stereotype.

Some examples:

Band of Brothers (HBO miniseries): Sgt. Bill Guarnere is ****y and hot-tempered (thinks he knows it all)

U-571: Seaman Mazzola is the only one of Matthew McConaughey's subordinates who is ****y, hot-tempered and challenges McConaughey's authority.

Caddyshack: I forget the name of the kid, but one of the golf caddies (Italian kid) is a real hot-head and obnoxious.

Seinfeld Episode: Kramer gets into an argument with a hot-headed Italian when he tries to pay for calzones in pennies.

I know there are more out there, can you think of any others?

Now, I am 1/2 Italian...but sometimes loathe being one. I am NOT a hot-head but I find alot of Italian-Americans (especially in NJ/NY) to be ****y, very emotional and hot-headed. I especially dislike guidos who pollute the Jersey Shore and think it is cool to talk like: Hey, howyadoin, make me some aldente pasta or I'll kick ya in the freakin head." lol.....

Actually, over here (I live in Italy) the obnoxious and hot-headed guys are considered the American students:)
But I live in the northern parts, where people are actually more chilled out than Americans. I have lots of friends from Naples, Bari and the South and I know that the attitude over there is similar to what you describe

Yea, I have heard stories that the Neapolitans are equivalent to the guido trash that we have here (without the muscles). All in all, I like Italians, just not alot of Italian Americans. Alot of these Italian-Americans that think they are all Italian could not even name me three cities in Italy.

I also hear most real Italians consider the Nicky Norca Italians in America a "disgrace".

You are right man, the neapolitans are usually perceived as your typical guido: short-to-average height, stocky, greased hair, dark skin, walking as a thug and screamin out loud... And, not to sound racist, but they usually ARE this way.

What are Nicky Norca Italians?

I think the sterotype may have a lot to do with Italian Americans from New York and Jersey.

What up racist thread in the waiting?

Being 2nd generation - 3/4 Italian, 1/4 irish (talk about hating myself) and not hot headed, I hate when people bring up this stereotype against either of the countries. Then again I kind of like that people usually leave me the fvck alone for no reason based on my name.

Anyways, I can pull just as many movies that don't portray mio fratello as thugs. And plenty of movies dont have the hot head stereotype as well your just not looking. Better yet look at the directors of some of the most famous movies in the past 50 yrs and were they came from.

And yeah what are Nicky Norca italians?
