i am a pretty fast distance runner and im trying to get a scholarship through cross country and i have i pretty good chance to get one. The thing is im tired of this long distance runner look, i want to put on some muscle but i dont want my speed to go down. Is there any way i can bulk up a bit and at the same time still increase my times?

Decide what you want to be, bro.. a distance runner or swoll.

You can't be both, because extra mass = slower times.

You aren't training to be a sprinter, so the extra weight over the longer distances kills you. i.e. your body has to work much harder to maintain the same speed at the higher weight.

If you have a scholarship riding on your performance, you'd be an idiot to start fukkin' with bulking right now.

You can bulk when you're no longer running x-country.

Sorry, bro, but it sounds like you need a bit of a reality check.

just lift, you'll look more cut but just be sure to keep running so your body can adjust to hauling a little more weight around. i think as long as you're sure to lift legs and you keep your mileage the same or possibly increase it you'll add some definition but i wouldn't go all out trying to get huge. i know a few heavier distance runners and they do just fine for themselves one would've gone to state this past year and probably would've won but he always has some bad luck when the end of the season rolls around and he f'ed up his back just like he did last year in track.
