Disclaimer is a TV miniseries on Apple TV+. It is just seven episodes long (about 50 minutes each). See it with an RP lens, and you can see how far and long a woman can go to get what she wants. Most of the stuff on TV+ is woke, but I recommend you watch this one. It is well made.
Edit: It is based on a book by Renée Knight. Let me know if the series is different from the book.
The series is non-linear but I will go linear here. Catherine Ravenscroft (Cate Blanchett/Leila George) is married to Robert Ravenscroft (Sacha Baron Cohen). They have a son Nicholas. Robert is from a wealthy family and runs the family foundation. Catherine was not working after marriage (I guess). Robert did not have much experience with women, but Catherine had quite a bit of experience in that department.
When Nicholas was 5, they went on a holiday to a beach in Italy. Robert had to return early because of some work thing. After that, Catherine meets Jonathan. We, viewers, are not sure what exactly transpires between Catherine and Jonathan but they did have $ex one way (consensual) or the other (grape). And Jonathan took pictures of her in sexy poses. And Nicholas witnessed a bit of it.
In one version, Jonathan is wimpy and Catherine seduces him. She used him to have fun and wanted to get rid of him when he fell madly in love with her. In the other version, Jonathan used force to make her pose for the pictures and graped her.
On the last day of the holiday, Nicholas was playing while Catherine slept, on the beach. Waves got rougher, Nicholas was in trouble, Jonathan saved him, and Jonathan drowned. Catherine could have saved Jonathan in time. But she chose not to. And Jonathan dies.
After the incident, Catherine goes back to work. The story picks up 20 years later. Catherine is now a successful documentary journalist. Robert is as beta as ever. Nicholas is now just a wimpy 25 year old man and a junkie.
Stephen (Jonathan's father) published a book written by his wife. Stephen stumbles up on the draft after Nancy (Jonathan's mother) dies. It is the narrative of Jonathan being a wimpy, naive kid who Catherine used and chose to let him die. With the book and the pictures Jonathan took of Catherine, Stephen wreaks havoc in the lives of Ravenscroft family.
The last episode of the series is where we see Catherine's version of things. Jonathan forced her to pose for the pictures and graped her. Robert, Stephen, and Nicholas accept this version and the series ends.
